I have 2 beautiful Grandchildren..thanks to IVF.
I'm very content in a affordable housing association property.
I have enough pensions to pay my bills etc.
I'm fit and active.
I'm very fortunate x8 -
Today's cheerful reasons:
I didn't need to go out today (not even to the bin) and have enjoyed being in a warm comfortable home.
A surprise unexpected visit from DS. He travels around the country a lot for work but decided to have an early finish today - he said it seemed that Everyman and his dog had decided on the same, so he pulled off the motorway and popped in to see us. We do keep in touch regularly by phone but it's not the same as face to face so it was good to catch up in person.
Wearing a new pair of slippers I got last year in the sales - they're keeping my feet warm and cosy and the old ones have been relegated to the bin.
Having lost some weight over the last couple of years I can now fit into clothes that haven't seen the light of day for quite some time. It's like having a brand new wardrobe!
Be kind to others and to yourself too.8 -
Such a lovely sunny morning
A walk up to a hill fort with lovely views
hearing a woodpecker, skylarks, wrens, robins and crows.
Passing the house I lived in 30 ish years ago and later passing the bakery nearby and it having granary bread and Chelsea buns warm just out of the oven! That topped my morning off and made me smile even more!
sausage sarnies in granary bread for tea
A full belly.

I've woken up at stupid o clock due to sudden gale force gale force winds. I usually check the weather but forgot last night.I have had more reasons to be cheerful Snowdrop walks including the Snowdrops in Chester on BBC NW news last night. I never watch the One Show and was about to change channels when I noticed a familiar face I'd seen online. He came to my attention fixing broken or botched boilers for elderly, disabled others unable to afford to have their boilers repaired or sometimes replaced .He isn't well off but was driving to those people and fixing their boilers free of charge. People advised him to start a go fund me page so he did. He'd stepped out of his comfort zone to help those in dire need, And a shy and humble man he went the extra mile for others. His name is James and he lives in Burnley and Burnley came out to thank him via the One Show. I shed a few tears a genuine life saver in tough times.Three reasons to be cheerful from last year have come back to me while trying to get back to sleep. Early last year my eldest daughter sent me a beautiful rose bush out of the blue. We've both always loved David Austin roses and have quite a few. I'm not someone who cries easily. People like James can bring a few tears more of gratitude that there are people like him. When I opened up the rose the tears began to flow. I never thought dd1 took much notice of my witterings through the years but I was looking at the new Nye Bevan rose. Bred to honour Nye and all those in the NHS working their socks off in a pandemic. That was one reason to be cheerful. The second one was an email from David Austin . They had decided all revenue from the sales of two of their popualar roses and the new Nye Bevan would be donated to charities supporting the NHS staff.Last December another email the sales has raised £100, 000. to be divided between NHS Charities Together. The Alexandra Rose Charity and The National Garden Scheme all of which have supported staff and others in these difficult times.Nye is in the back garden in a large pot alongside my beloved gone but never forgotten Geoff Hamilton Rose. I'm looking forward to summer.Thank you for this thread Jackie. It's reminded me of What is this life if full of care. We have no time to stand and stare.Days can slp by but really thinking of things that bring joy is a big positive.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.9 -
It’s a beautiful bright but chilly day down here on the Kent coast. We’ve just joined Historic Houses and are going to Goodnestone Park today, armed with a flask and home made biscuits.Carolbee5

Good morning everyone ,thank you pollyanna for those kind words, I was really surprised at the messages that came about after I first posted. I thought 'Oh folk will think its soppy to be happy about the simplest of things', but it seems we have all got ordinary simple things that cheer us up. Even the thought of just 'stopping and staring' at something.
My late Mum used to say many moons ago when I was a little lass, 'Look up, not down as all you see when looking down is the floor, and your shoes, whereas if you look up there are some many interesting things to see'
Bless her she wasn't wrong.
Perhaps I'm just an eternal optimist and my glass is always half full, but I have been 'looking up' for most of my life and find it does you good to just think of what makes you happy.
I think there isn't any of us on here who haven't had sad or worrying times in our lives, but hopefully the happy good times outweigh them.
I had a lovely day yesterday, a walk around the small lake in my local park, and watched the ducks squabbling over in the reed beds, the buds are starting to show on the trees, and I sat outside the small cafe with aa cuppa and chatted a really nice lady who was feeling sad as she had lost her dog through old age and illness.
She said because of her age she wasn't going to replace him, as it would probably out live her
But she apparently still walks round the park daily as she did when she had him, and gets to make friends with other dog walkers, which I thought was really nice. I said I would probably see her again when I next went there and she said 'Well I'm here every day at some point.
She, I think enjoyed our natter and it quite made my day to think just a half hour chat had cheered someone else up. We admired the fussing ducks and I shall keep an eye out for their babies when they start to arrive.
Knitted in the afternoon and relaxed so a pleasant day all round and a new friend met.
This morning, I think its the last of the sunny weather according to the forecast, so I have a small wash to hang out as it looks like a gentle breeze will help to get it damp dry at least. Nothing like the smell of windblown washing to make you feel the winter is nearly gone
My granddaughter flew off to NYC this morning with her OH on their belated honeymoon, hope their weather is kind to them.
eldest DD is doing doggy day care for a weekluckily her OH works from home , but I know she is looking forward to it.
Tomorrow when I go to youngest DDs we are having a belated Christmas dinner as their one was ruined by going down with the virus ,So all the boys will be ther Ben from north London, and his brother Henry home for the weekend from Uni in Essex, Jack and Mikey so tomorrow we will be eatinf turkey and the trimmings and pulling crackers noisy but lots of fun will ensue
lots of happy cheerful folks around tomorrow
The main thing I have found that seems to cheer folk up has absolutely nothing to do with money at all, its all about looking for perhaps more meaningful things that cost nothing but mean so much
My meaningful things are my family, and friends and people around me. Just being out in the sunshine ,even if cold, and seeing the spring, and life slowly returning after the grey of the winter is enough to make me smile and feel cheerful at least
Have a great day everyone, and thank you all so much for posting you cheery bits and pieces
