Well due to being slightly bored and fed today, I decided today to work out how much we’ve  knocked off since the new 20 year mortgage started in Jan 2021.

Until October 2022 we knocked 8 months off and from then until today another 23 months have been taken off making a total of 31, it’s probably a pointless thing to do but sometimes you need to give yourself a pat on the back when it seems too much like hard work!

We have been in this house since March 2001 (originally it was a 25 year mortgage, but it doubled and lengthened to forty a few years back 😱, plus we had massive cc debts too) so it would have finished in Feb 2026, my 33 month challenge takes is to June 2025 fingers crossed!

I first read that as knocking a year off overall but of course it isnt, its 2025 against when your 40 year mortgage would have ended.  Plus if you'd carried on with the bigger mortgage and the cc debts without the lbm I'm sure that 40 years would have been extended further at some point.  So you have saved thousands in various interests and got your home extended allowing your family and now extra members to have a wonderful home.

Hope dh is able to start taking a bit more care of himself regarding work and the stress it causes him.  Its been a while since your posts were mentioning the stress he is under at work,  I'm sorry to read he is back feeling like that again.

    Hugs, daisy xx

Thanks Daisy, I guess so, it’s scary to think what might have happened if we hadn’t turned things around. Have a nice weekend 😊

    Spending update time :

    • £94.29 Tesco delivery sat (less than expected due to missing items)
    • £7.05 M&S today satsumas, avocados and bread
    • £4.80 wilko, carpet shampoo and antibacterial wipes for cat unpleasantness, don’t usually use these but need to now 😆
    • £1 bath sponge
Total spending this month so far £227.64/ £500 shouldn’t need any petrol as new old car has lots and it’s not going down much even though I’m driving it around a fair bit- hooray!

Well I’ve been messing around with the spread sheet again! trying to cut costs a bit more….

    Planned cuts:
    • £31.50 pm saved on bmw tax (from March)
    • £20 pm saved on the home/car ins pot (£30 pm not £50)
    • £20 pm surplus from change in PAYE I was going to have in my personal budget
    • £84.76 pm when I clear the garage 😩 hopefully from April
These extras if I can stick to them would knock an extra 2 whole months off! I can’t see it happening but it’s food for thought 😁

No you go for it SC, it’s true! What would really help though is if you could say it to my dh though please as I need his help as I’m too scared of the spiders 😆

Finally the lady came to collect our old tv unit that we listed on the gifting site, after many messages saying she coming and she didn’t, I ended up leaving it on the drive 🙄

Spent money again today, my b@dum travel mug I’ve had for years was stained from tea so I wrongly soaked it with washing liquid, you can’t do this as the plastic lid absorbs the smell 😩 I’ve spent a week soaking and scrubbing and still had soapy tea. They are £18 on Amazon 😱 but only £6.95 for certain colours on the website (postage over £5) so I ordered three, so ds2 and dil can have one each as they have old ceramic travel cups and we take them to the cinema every time. Such a lot of money but I found it way better than all other travel cups I’ve had and even take it to bed with my tea as it’s so cold up there it cools down too quickly 😂

    so :

    •  £26.75 on 3 mugs (£1.22 through topcashback)
    • £22 on a lovely huge pink sweatshirt and 2 x T-shirts today - from personal spends though
Total spending so far for Feb : £254.39 /£500

I should have taken the mug money from personal spending but it’s a bit low already, and I guess it is saving on tea buying at the cinema which I’m putting under groceries 😆

Oh and I also managed to flatten the car battery today by leaving the lights on when I went out, managed to jump start when dad came to the car park with his leads, what a plonker! The other car has auto lights but this one is a tad more basic 😆
