Dads not well again so I’m taking him to the doctors this morning as mums sold her car and won’t drive dads Tesla (don’t blame her it it just apprears to have a big tv screen instead of car things 😂) so I’ve been hanging around drinking coffee and wasting time online. However it’s proved fairly worthwhile as I came across an advert for a Xmas regular saver account paying 4.5% with the interest paying out on 31st October and max monthly payment of £300 (Yorkshire BS).This suits my holiday saving quite well as we are going in November, so I’ve paid in £300 for Jan, there’s no hope of maintaining that level unless we all stop eating but I’ll do the best I can and I love the idea of a regular saver, I’ve not had one for years 🙂MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁4

Oops, where have a been for the last few days, I don’t know 😆
Thanks for the good wishes tryharder and mfd’s ,dad seemed a bit better yesterday. I’ve been worrying about a health thing though this week too, hopefully just a symptom of menopause but I think that I think i need to book a doctors appointment for if that’s even possible now!Anyway onto more relevant topics 😬 Finances need updating along with the mfw challenge, I’ve not bothered updating the mfi3 thread for ages and I think I’ve lost track so it will have to just be the yearly one now.I’ve really struggled this January, I’ve dipped into other pots (other pots are now all empty basically 😆) I think I may have to go back to posting all spending on here as it has the benefit of being very easy to keep track of and somehow makes me more determined to stick to budget. Food spending is very low for our household size, I do a combo of cooking and also a fair bit of junk food now like chips and wedges, bean burgers, fishfingers the other day. With people coming in at different times and different things (some no meat, some no fish some veggie 😆) it makes life easier, like dd and hubby popping over Monday night after work at 7pm with no notice, at least I can do quick extra dinner for them in the air fryer then.
So back soon for the monthly update!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁3 -
💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙MONTH 4 OF THE 33 MONTH CHALLENGE💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Start balance 1st October 2022: £61,452.11
Balance today: £55,799.94
Total reduction since month one: £5,652.17
Total reduction this month: £1818.56
Also this we have managed to save £25 into premium bonds and £300 into a regular saver towards our Norway trips on November, there was a bit more in the slush fund but I needed to use it for food yesterday along with a bit of my personal spending money 😩£300 surplus was made up of Xmas money we were given too(£150) , so things might get a bit trickier on a £500 pm budget now to save a lot, although dh has given me £100 toward next months regular saver when I told him about it so it’s a start 😬
Plans for Feb :
- Post all spending
- Sell stuff on eBay starting with dh’s bike
- Come under the £500 pm budget , even if it’s 10p 😂
Overall I’m happy as we have managed 4 months, honestly I thought we wouldn’t be able to actually do one month with how dear things are now, I have to say it’s been a hard month and although dh is onboard with what we are trying to do here, he gets a bit fed up sometimes with the fairly cold house, he said it’s freezing at work - no heating at all them home to very low heating, plus the lack of treats or going out. Think it’s mainly work getting him down and the January blues though which makes it all the more important to stick to this 😉
Hope everyone is having a good Sunday 💕MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁5 -
Oh dear, it didn’t look like that when I wrote the above post 😆 sorry it’s massive if you are reading!MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁2

Thanks try harder 🙂
Hi Vix, I think I did join a while ago but there was not much around, I should check it out I guess.
Went to the cinema today and saw “plane” with dh, I had fairly low expectations so it was not as bad as I thought, helped greatly by a free scoop of ice cream thanks to the cinema pass January weekly freebie 😬
Just had a look through my January aims which were:
- Overpay by £1628 - £1628 overpaid
- January day out to the zoo- fail! Cold wet and felt ill a couple of weekends
- Save £25 to premium bonds - £25 saved
- Make or save £50 extra - managed £300 total
- 5lb weight loss - tbc but I’ll be happy if it’s one 🙄
- Find a car, looked for weeks and gave up as depressing 😆
- Read two books - read the first ever Poirot and have just started Wolf Hall which is brilliant but doubt I’ll finish it in a few days!

Timing is everything with Olio. Most Tesco stores have evening collections now, so items will listed from 8.45 pm. Iceland is earlier, I think from about 6pm.
You’ve done really well with those goals! Did you enjoy Poirot? I love an Agatha Christie 😊Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days
