When we moved here and let the water company have the meter reading they suggested we might have a leak as the reading was very high. They suggested we read the meter, check that everything is turned off, wait a bit without using any water, then read the meter again to see if it has moved. I wonder if you could try the same for your gas and electricity to check that there is no unexpected movement?2

its not unheard of for meters to be connected wrong - my aunt and uncle and their neighbour were paying each others bill for several years after works when it got mixed up

I can’t imagine it is a meter fault as we have been here many years and I do regularly check , I think it must be related to the snow perhaps, maybe it clicked on in the night without me knowing to freeze protect? The last two days have been no spend days - hooray! Yesterday I went round mums for half the day as she’s been in all week with a sick dad, then i came home and my just back from Thailand friend came round unexpectedly and stayed until late afternoon, she’s house hunting very close by, her parents are basically buying her a flat mortgage free 😱 I did put the heating in while she was here as it was 🥶when she arrived 😆
Dh has a big meeting today to get a client that will help secure everyone’s jobs more, only he will be able to do the job, he has way to much work already and he could have done this job himself and left to be honest! They could also do with me back as lots of my work is taking way to long to get done, but I’m sure they won’t consider paying for that to happen. The sooner this mortgage is paid off the better, I’ve suggested as his “boss” (who knows literally nothing about this business and isn’t the owner) who is in for the first time in a while maybe is made aware of how much dh is keeping the whole thing going when he’s been the only one to get a 20% pay cut!He should just walk away really, but it still feels too risky when we have a mortgage and they are also our tenants with a lease until this October, plus the staff are family and friends who he has never wanted to let down, plus he’s been there for 35 years 😱 it’s all a bit complicated…..MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁3 -
Such a tricky situation for your DH. He’s lucky to have your support so all he has to worry about is work while you get all the rest of life sorted.
Is there any chance he could subcontract the work you used to do in the factory to you working from home? Or does it require specialist equipment? It seems crazy to eat it get behind - his bosses seem very short sighted in their decision making.1 -
Hi Ramouth, no most needs to been done on machines there. I do work for dh that he runs through his own company (his bosses know about this) at home but their work needs to be done there and they don’t want me , crazy people 😆
If dh goes it alone I’ll go and work with him, I think we will know more later in the year by whether they renew the factory lease or not.Been out with best friend today and it was her turn to pay for breakfast, I did do a bit of minor spending and will update soon.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁1 -
After a bit of spending I’ve £159.70 left out of a £500 January budget. It’s not quite as bad as it seems though as I’ve been paying for birthday presents from that and not the birthday pot and also not touched my personal spends so that’s still at £100. I thought I’d see how long I can go on the £500 budget before dipping into the rest, and have swept £105 into a new overflow account that was in the birthday pot originally.I’ve noticed that Feb and March are a water bill free couple of months - hooray! So more to go into the new overflow pot the idea of which is to have money to fall back on if I run at at the end of the month which then if there’s any left moves to the Norway trip pot 😬
I was going to book a food shop for this weekend, but I think I better bet is to have a good look and see what I can cook / bake that will see us through until early next week perhaps.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁2 -

Ooh, thanks for the reminder about the water bills 👍 I pay my council tax over 12 months, but they'll only do that with water with my supplier if you're on a meter (which makes no sense at all to me, as they already know in advance exactly how much they'll be billing me 🤷♀️)Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
Cleared 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️!!! In 5 years, 1 month and 29 days
Total amount repaid: £72,307.03. £1.10 repaid for every £1.00 borrowed
