Sounds like a great potential for saving! And the sooner you make the change, presumably the less the value of your current car will be impacted by the ULEZ’s introduction?

I have a 1.0l seat - I wouldn't hesitate to take it somewhere like York (it took some getting used to on the motorways after a 1.6, but it's just a case of changing my driving style) and it would easily fit in 2 weeks of luggage for 2 people - as would my golf.

Our family car (7 seater VW) is a 1.5L.

Make the change- it's worth it on so many levels!!

Would selling the current car in a different part of the country be an option? You could find it's worth a lot more somewhere where the ULEZ isn't an issue (and ideally where fuel is cheap!) Might be worth looking into car auction options?

Not strictly MSE but if you want something bigger for short periods it may be worth renting a vehicle.  Rent a runner type places do not just rent out junk heaps & the last thing they need is a breakdown.  I also agree that selling elsewhere in the country could well be a very good idea.  Although looking at it from another point of view, if they are charging a lot more for vans than your vehicle, then a man who works for himself may well consider it favourably.
  • Great goals NG. Have you tried matchbetting? I used Team profit and then TeamCasino for guidance - it literally tells you all the steps to take. There are others though like Profit Accumulator and OddsMonkey too. MSE used to have a section on it, which is also worth a read. I made about 5k in less than a year doing it and many people make lots more - I was unlucky not getting any casino bit wins. I wouldn't recommend if you think you may risk developing a gambling habit, but if you don't have an addictive personality, it's well worth a go for money from the free offers.

That’s very interesting greent, I have had a tiny engined car but not for many years. The good news is I popped round my parents today and asked if I can borrow mums car if we ever need to (she’s ordered another new one and the old one has a 2k miles on it in two years 😆) and luckily the answer is yes if we want to 😬 this does make me feel a little better about having a tiny car.

SC I did consider whether it helps to sell further away but to be honest I think people do travel for cars sometimes anyway? Selling in York might be an option I guess 🤔

Hi bad memory, hopefully we can use mums instead now which will be a lot cheaper 🙂

Hi bargain hunter 30 I read about it on the thread that used to be on here years ago but to be honest it seemed quite scary 🙄 I’ll take a look at the places you mentioned and see if I can get my head around what to do, thank you.

Might as well carry on the daily spending updates as it’s keeping me on track even if it is boring anyone who may be reading 😁

Very lazy day today, sitting around eating Xmas junk again when I should have started the healthy eating, still the Tesco shop came and there’s some good food in there, so I’ll start tomorrow 😁

I’ve been thinking about the January plans today, and have come up with the following :

    • Read two books
    • Overpay by £1628
    • Save £25 to premium bonds - my new mini challenge as income has raised by this amount due to tax
    • January day out - Colchester zoo as they have a January cheap entry offer 😁
    • Find a car!
    • 5lb weight loss
    • Make or save £50 extra

    Spending today £91.56/ £95.96 total of £500

Well more spending done again 🙄

    • £11.33 local shop food
    • £4.05 hot chocolate for dil on walk today so we could use the Costa free cake voucher 😊
    • £6.70 cat bits and many packs of 10p paper Xmas bows in the sale
    • £30 knitted poncho for me (half price on fleabay)
    • £8.29 boots - big pot of face cream and shampoo- I’m now using the cheap blue Nivea and my skins lovely and soft just like my grans was, don’t know why I haven’t always used it!
    • £6.25 Poundland sale Xmas bits and a sketch pad and pencils to try drawing
Total spending so far £158.18 /£500 However some of the bits I bought should have come from my personal spending allowance, but I thought I’d try and only use the £500 budget for as long as I can before then switching to my allowance if (when 😆) I run out. I’ve used some gift cards I got for Xmas to buy some birthday bits and bobs hence why I’ve treated myself to a poncho I saw a while ago I fancied 😬

Not much else to report except went in a very long walk around town with dil today, first one for a while which wore me out, then came home and dyed my own hair after my aunt had a go at trimming it yesterday.

NG, do you do receipt scanning? Don't take this the wrong way, but you strike me as a woman that might have quite a few receipts 😅! I do Shoppix, Storewards, Huyu and ZipZero.

I also think you'd do well out of Consumer Pulse.

Like surveys, none of these will make you rich, but for a few minutes of effort a week, I can see you getting £5-£10 a month

Hi SC no I don’t will look into it thanks 🙂 I did to the food shopping barcode scanning when I first started here many years ago and had a special machine but it took so long I quit, can’t remember the name of it now but receipt scanning sounds much quicker and you are right I do get a few 😬

I struggling to find a new car 😩 found a 2006 reg 1.0 litre for £1500 last night and messaged and it was already sold, it’s been the only one not with very high mileage or a write off of much dearer, plus I have a fear of very stained seats so that makes it trickier as there’s some yukky ones out there 😆
