Merry Christmas everyone 🙂 Back home now after a day at mil’s yesterday and my mums today, helped out a lot as my parents had colds but refused my offer to move it here instead.I still need to update spending from the last few days and see if I made the target (I won’t be spending much more except milk and bread hopefully 🙄).
We had a more pared down Xmas this year and it worked well - except the family secret Santa where my aunt got me to buy for but instead bought for my mum , so she got two presents and I got none, we couldn’t swap as I’d bought mums and aunt had bought alcohol 😂 oh well it was still cheaper this year.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁2 -
Happy Christmas to you. I can remember when you stopped drinking that seems a long time ago. How long is it? You can get some nice non alcoholic drinks now. We’ve had a lovely time. Daughter and her partner and pup staying. My son here he went to his girlfriends last night they are back this evening then son’s birthday tomorrow. I know stupid time to have a Birthday. xx2025 Decluttering 10472⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hi MMP merry Christmas! It was four years ago on bonfire night, never thought I’d stop forever but can’t imagine drinking now 😬 ds2 has been part-time teetotal for a while now, so I feel he may eventually stop at some point, I hope so as my extended family all drink a fair bit.Sounds like you had a good Christmas, I hope you ds has a nice birthday today 🙂
No plans today 😱 seems strange to say that, dh is still asleep, ds1 is away , ds2 going to his wife’s nan’s and dd is not sure yet, I’ve said they are welcome over but it’s chocolate/ cheese and crackers not me cooking today, it feels great 😆
Dh bought me too much for Xmas which I’d suggested a silver ring from a little family business I’d seen online, but he needed up getting the whole set of earrings and necklace too, as well as a couple of vouchers. We did get between us I think £150 in cash which will go towards next years trips booked on the cruise which we need to find the money to pay for still.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁3 -
Spending update time:
- £2.10 bread from bakers
- £19.43 Aldi Xmas eve
- £5 primark sale Xmas shirt for an unimpressed dh 😆
- £8 breakfast with friends Xmas eve
- £1.70 milk today
£1796.03 / £1800 so £3.97 left! I will go over I’m sure but it’s not a bad result for this time of year, even though by not entertaining this year it saved a lot.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁4 -

Hi Jessy, thank you and happy new year to you too 🙂
💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙MONTH 3 OF THE 33 MONTH CHALLENGE💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Start balance 1st October 2022 £61,452.11
Balance today £57,618.40
Total reduction since month one £3833.71
Total reduction this month £1300.43
Also the planned £560 has gone to the cruise saving pot.
This month has been the hardest so far to achieve the target set, as each month goes on I think more things crop up that the budget is not designed to stretch to, being December certainly doesn’t help too 😆 however three out of three months so far are on target, I’ve no savings for anything except the mortgage offset so fingers crossed things don’t go wrong! We are off to York first thing with a zero budget, however we do have a full tank of diesel courtesy of mum and dad as part of our Xmas present 😂 I’m taking a bit of food with us and may venture out the Wetherspoons of dh pays 😬 also have return free tickets to York minster so we can mooch around there as usual.MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁5 -
💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙2022 ROUND UP 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Total paid off this year is £7,319.80 which is not very good! I’ve just set the target for 2023 we need to hit to stay on track and it’s ‘drum roll’ £22,372, so ever so slightly more 😂. Just had a look and the planned overpayments this year are 53.13% of this years total income (dh employed wages, my wage working for him, share dividends from the factory rent, kids board contributions.Plus I need to find about £2000 to pay for the trips and spending money on our cruise to the northern lights next November 😱 and we need a new car by august, I’m starting to think this might be challenging 😬MFW 67 - Finally mortgage free! 💙😁6 -
I love how you always seem to hit your targets yet also have a great life along the way , just perfect2

Love your planning and scheming. You are doing so well. It may not seem it. You did have all the weddings though don’t forget that. This coming year sounds challenging. How is the new kitten getting on? Have a happy New Year xx2025 Decluttering 10472⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well done with the spending challenge!
Might I suggest that you might need to up your income to reach the target?Have you thought any more about a job, or do you think you're better off with you watching the pennies at home? I totally get that this has its benefits but its a big goal this year! (Although when working you also can't be spending, which I find is useful.)
I don't think you do surveys.... any reason why not? I recommend Prolific for actual hard cash - and it tots up quickly, surveys are interesting and pay out is from £5. I think there might be a waiting list, but I'm guessing that also might depend on demographics. Might be worth a look?
