Morning all, we have heavy snow and DS was insistent he was attempting to get to work :(  he's text to say he's there but goodness knows how he will get home.  He may get close if the main roads stay relatively clear but will have to leave his car at the local community centre and walk the rest of the way!

Today is all about keeping cosy (and trying not to look out the window or check the weather forecast every two mins) - toast with tomatoes and mushrooms, potato and leek soup for lunch and fish and chips with veg for dinner.  Syns for breadcrumbs.

    Keep safe and warm today!

Mornng al, it's extremely windy here in Kent but not actually raining at the moment although it has been as it's very wet outside.  We've got a Red weather warning now so no idea how much windier it's going to get - it's bad enough now.  The warning is from 10am.

I think that's the problem with the smaller shops @Coxy11; we had a TGTG bag from a Costcutter and that was full of junk food which DH had to eat!  At least you got a loaf of Hovis you could use!  But I think you're right about the main SM stores getting more SW friendly stuff, although you still get some junk but not as much.  DH has booked a Greggs TGTG bag for this afternoon so no doubt that will all be junk - don't think they even do anything SW friendly!

I always keep a bottle of lemon juice in the fridge, it's so useful for all sorts of things, even for putting into so water when you're chopping fruit, particularly apples, for fruit salad.  I also use it on salads sometimes instead of using a dressing.

I'm with you about the carbs - I can't manage without them.  I've tried SP days but they just don't work for me as I always feel hungry quite quickly after my meals so end up snacking a lot more!

    Today's plan:

    B - mushroom & spring onion omelette - P; S
    L - Welsh rarebit - HEA2; HEB; P; F
    D - chicken chasseur (from the freezer); mash; green veg - P; S; F

    HEA1 - milk
    HEA2 - cheese
    HEB - bread
    Syns - rum & ginger beer 5

Keep safe everyone in this awful weather.
  • Morning all.  Windy here in Surrey too.  Neighbour's garden gate has been broken for months and now is banging around so much that bits are splintering off - keep having visions that a huge chunk is going to fly off and through the windscreen of our car, fingers crossed it doesn't happen though!

Was in the office again yesterday - took a walk down to Oxford Street in the afternoon to return something for DH and enjoyed being back in the city again although it was still busy because of half term.

Had ff yogurt and blueberries for breakfast this morning, lunch is the last of my soup stash in the freezer (sweet potato this time) and then dinner tonight is something with sausages and I'm having a weird craving for toad in the hole so might end up doing that.  Need to pick up some eggs later if so.

Hope everyone manages to stay safe with the wind and the snow.

That's right @bubbs. We were at a theatre matinee yesterday and then straight out for dinner with friends in the evening. I did make some SW friendly choices (prawns, sea bass) but disappointed that the only veg with my fish was peas as usually this restaurant is quite imaginative. I'm sure it's all a sign of cutting corners to save money plus there is a problem getting decent chefs. I had an ice cream at the theatre too but the tubs have shrunk so much that it was only 7 syns! 🤣

It's wild and windy here too, on the south coast but no snow thank goodness. DH has taken the car for a service but rang to say buses have been suspended so he's going to grab some lunch and wait in city centre until car is ready as he was going to come home first. I plan to go and do a food shop later but it's not essential as we have enough in for today.

Great news about your boiler @TakeItEazy. That's the last thing you want to be without at the moment. If you're short of time in the mornings then have fruit and yogurt but you could have something with eggs cooked in advance. That could be egg muffins or simple hard boiled eggs.  Although if you prefer porridge or something first thing, it'll give you energy for the day and you could just cut your carbs for the rest of the day.

    Today's EE plan-
B - fried eggs (P), tomatoes and mushrooms (S), HEB toast (rye), HEA milk for drinks
L- JP (F), cottage cheese ham (P), spring onion, beetroot (S)
D- fishcake, SW chips (F), asparagus, mange tout and more (S)
Syns- Morrisons fishcake 2, weekend wine😁

The wind is well and truly doing its worse!  So far 3 panels from next door's fence have blown into our garden.  Once this wind dies down that will being going back into their garden!  When the property was empty the fence was damaged so we contacted the management agency but they only replaced the 2 damaged panels and not the rest of the fence so they only have themselves to blame that they are going to have to come back to do them.  The whole fence needed doing really - we know for a fact that it was done 20 years ago because it was done the year we moved in here.  At least the neighbours won't have to pay for it as they are renting.  There are now only 3 of the original panels left and 2 of them are rotten anyway but unless they get blown down I'm sure they won't bother replacing them!

When the panel nearest the bungalow went I thought it was going to come through our French doors!

I've noticed that @maman when we eat out it's usually peas as the veg.  Really annoying but suppose it's to be expected because frozen peas are cheap and easy!

Only one more panel come down!  Still at least it's only fences and nothing else.  Everyone is safe and as far as I know there haven't been any fatalities in the South East thankfully.

The wind is still really strong but definitely not as bad as it was earlier.  We've still got an Amber warning until 9pm and then reduces to Yellow for tomorrow.
