Loving your set up for your seeds!! Still havent started mine yet. Last day off tomorrow before 4 days back at work so hoping to get going tomorrow afternoon. Hope your car isnt too poorly. Ours ended up costing us £420 but that included 2 new tyres, MOT and service as well as new spring and arms to mend suspension. so not all bad.

Be thankful for what you have then you’ll end up having more.  If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never ever have enough.

    Money / household savings:

    1. It was my dh’s payday yesterday so today i worked out our money.  After taking off all our monthly bills / savings for hols, xmas etc we have managed to put £392.58 into our savings pot towards paying off our ‘kitchen mortgage’ when our fixed rate finishes in December this year, so that is good.
    2. Last night my dd’s both came over with their partners and we all had a free Chinese takeaway using the vouchers we were sent for taking part in the ONS covid study, so that was a free meal to us (ok not very healthy but we thought a treat was in order - see below for explanation).  However the Chinese meal wasn’t very nice at all (it arrived luke warm and the chicken dishes had barely any chicken in and the chips were soggy)….we wont be ordering from them again lol.  My husband complained to deliveroo expecting nothing really in return, but today they have credited our account with half the cost of the takeaway, which is really good of them 👏👏👏

    Wellbeing:

    1. This morning i completed run number two of my ‘couch to 5k’…..yet again it was another killer but hey ho i did it.  I went on the park this time and it was much better as i could now hear my music and the coach telling me what to do without the traffic wizzing past me.  Later i walked our dog and i must say i really struggling as the top of my legs and one side of my lower back was hurting ( i’ll have to see how i go with my lower back as i do struggle with bouts of painful lower back ache and i dont want to make it worse).
    2. This afternoon my good friend came round with her one year old granddaughter ( i was going to drive to her but i can’t drive until our car is fixed tomorrow….so she offered to come to me).  It was lovely to have a good old catchup with her and a ‘play’ with her granddaughter.
    3. I’m very worried about my dd1 as she told me a couple of days ago the doctor has given her antidepressants as she has been feeling very low.  She has always been anxious since childhood and at 16 she was referred to CAMHS (childhood and adolescent mental health service) and it took a good couple of years of counselling and ALOT of hard work from me and my dh to help aid her recovery without anti-depressants ( this was on top of running round left right and centre for my rotten parents).  She has started counselling again which is good, so last night i went through some things with her partner, that i found helped her last time that are in line with the CBT she is doing once again with the counsellor. ( i.e catastrophizing, black and white thinking, mind reading etc etc).  I’ve told her she can ring me at anytime night or day and i will be here for her……..so i definitely need to be strong for her and i can only do this by continuing to look after myself.

    Anyway thats it for today

    Mortgage / household savings:

    1. Remember last week my dh received a ‘love to shop’ voucher for £375 from his employer for 25 years service, well we have looked and looked for something to spend it on and to be honest we don’t need anything from the shops we can spend it in…..so we have decided to spend it on food as tesco is on the list of shops it can be used in.  Unfortunately we can’t use it online so i will have to go back to shopping in the store for a month…..something i havent done since lockdown 😱😱😱, but at least it will free up some cash to put towards our kitchen mortgage.
    2. The car went into the garage today and they couldn’t find anything wrong with it😱😱😱….. they reset the ‘computer error codes’ in the car (what ever that means) and my dh husband took it for a massive ride out to test it and fingers crossed it seems ok now, though they said to take it back in if it happens again.  They are lovely at the garage as we have been going to them for years and they didn’t charge us anything.
    3. I made the dreaded birthday cake for the lady i havent seen for ages and ages.  She wanted a chocolate one, so i made three layers (one chocolate and two vanilla) with lots and lots of chocolate buttercream frosting in between the layers and over the top and edges, and then finished it off with gratings of milk and white chocolate and gold sugar nuggets and sprayed the sides with gold edible spray.  I only actually brought a cake board, candles and a proper cake box to put it in which cost me £5 , as i actually had everything else in my pantry (the nuggets and gold spray were left over from my daughters birthday cake last year).   The photo below doesn’t really pick up the gold edible spray or the gold nuggets….it looks much brighter in real life.   Anyway i think she will like it and from now on i must learn to say “no” when i don’t want to do something 🤣🤣🤣

    Wellbeing:

    1. Today i did my 30 minutes of brisk walking, which is good.
    2. I’ve noticed i have been sleeping much better at night…. I’m only waking twice a night now and going straight back to sleep (after visiting the loo) instead of being awake for hours.  I’m not sure if it’s because of my brisk walking (since i started this diary on the 28/12) or because this diary is helping me with my mental health?  Which ever it is, i hope it carries on.  I know i’ve had a few ‘ropey down days’ since starting my diary but overall i am beginning to feel a bit better in myself.  It really helps knowing i have support from those of you spurring me on.
    3. I do need to sort my diet out still though as that isn’t going well at all.  I keep telling myself that as soon as my dentist and mammogram is over next week and my dd2 is back at university next weekend, i will be in a better place to start.

    Anyway thats it for now.

  • Fabulous cake PM!  Next time someone asks you to make one for them say "I'll get back to you with a price" - I'd buy your cakes if I saw them in a shop.

  • Your cake looks amazing!! Surely the person you have made it for isnt just expecting it for nothing?? I know you only spent a fiver but the ingredients for a cake like that soon add up. In the restaurant I work in, a slice of that would set you back £3.95 a slice and thats cheap compared to some other restaurants. Its not just the ingredients either....its your time!!
