Evening all
I am claiming nsd 5 today. Because I haven't spent anything. Something very, very strange happened last night. I went to bed early because I was exhausted after exactly 3 days back at workSo in bed at nine, asleep by half past. Awake for a few minutes at 1am because ds came in to ask if I was ok as I'd been asleep for so long. Up for a few minutes at 4am for the toilet but then I slept. Until half past seven this morning. I honestly can't remember the last time that I slept for that long. I actually felt refreshed and half raring to go this morning. But am very aware that I don't need to be doing something 24/7.
Successfully jump started dd's car and took it for a drive to try and get the battery charged up a little bit. I hope it will start again tomorrow and doesn't need a new battery. Because I can't afford that this month at all.
Came home, dd had gone to work and ds was still sleeping. Prepped the long awaited coleslaw and made my ham and pease pud soup.
Saw my dad - bit worried about his health at the moment. He's complaining of numbness in his lower legs. Can't get him to speak to anyone or see anyone about it at the moment, but if he doesn't improve soon I will take that option away from him.
Thinking of you mothernerd.

Staying again on NSD 3/16It was grocery delivery day and I bought sunglasses online for DS.DS has a terrible cough right now and coughed through the night last night. I woke to a message from nursery this morning - ‘someone’s tested positive for covid’. I sat there in bed in the dark with my anxiety going through the roof. I woke up OH to tell him. We waited until DS was awake and the three of us took tests… all negative. But we’re doing them again tomorrow. Everything crossed that results all come back negative. I’m seriously considering keeping DS off nursery for the rest of January.Grateful today for negative covid tests this time round, for a cosy day at home, and for chocolates from spout day.NST 🐢 & MF before 40 🤸11

Crazy_cat_lady - I hope you can persuade your dad to be checked over.
Foxholes - Mum and I loved your hidden money story! A few years ago mum told me to check everywhere if the pops her clogs, including the cushions as she had money in them. Your story prompted her to say not to bother now as she's had to spend it, although she keeps checking in case a tenner has got stuck somewhere!
Abundant1972 - Well done on bringing your DFD forward by 3 years! Please make sure you still allow enough for some fun and treats else life could feel a bit flat.
Still no NSD but food shopping for Wk1 for 2 of us halved to £30. Food bought in for Christmas obviously helping pad things out. Hope this will continue all month. Plan to make soup/stews for work lunches, must get recipes out.
Took mum out to local town for a bit of shopping as she's nearly going crackers stuck at home. My sister and family still recovering from covid so no visits there. Mum seems to think if we shop together we'll be safe, bless her. Not amused when woman coming out of a shop turned and coughed over both of us. What is wrong with people?!
Gratitudes today: nice time shopping with Mum, ready made curries for tea and thermal leggings under my jeans.

Stayed Friday night at mum's, so that I could take her shopping when I arrived from work, then drop her off at work Saturday morning & do my big monthly shop, so saved some diesel as I live 14 miles away. After dropping her off yesterday, I went to measure up a boat cabin to recover all the soft furnishings, only to find there was no-one near the marina gate to let me through. Walked down the pier to the harbour master's office, but didn't see anyone there either, so must've walked through every deep puddle possible on my way back up to the car. Mum made me a hot drink at her work, before taking a sip & after chatting to a customer, I came over all fizzy inside my body & had a job making myself concentrate on what mum was saying, it was very weird. Happened again in T0sco but a bit milder! No idea what it was. Anyway, drove home, hubby was out walking & all 3 DS's still in bed, asked twice if anyone would help carry all the bags inside, but fell in deaf ears! Think it took me 10 trips, as I had lots of bags with sewing jobs to be done inside too.
Had a rest & my dinner, then put it all away. Unpicked a coat zip, then after tea I put the new zip in. Binge watched a programme off the box, treated myself to a pint of Snowball & a few chocs & did some knitting.
Grateful for sitting down resting, Snowballs & chocs, a ball of wool arriving (vacuum packed, so less than 5mm thick 😲 never seen that before) so can do start the patterned part of my jumperUse it up, wear it out
Make do or do without!
If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours 😃

Update - just emptied 2 more boxes from the August rescue move of ds1's uni stuff - 2 boxes gone from my garage, and the dad are having the boxes picking up tomorrow. Boom. And I am (still) trying to complete freelance work, but am on last 2 - 3 hours of it. Dinner is left overs, lunch was 2 gifted choc croissants apparently from olio, did a 2k walk w ds1 a pb in recent time, and in the sunshine, cover work is set for tomorrow.
Every body else, you are doing amazing work. I'm proud to be part of the club :-)Isa help to buy: 1000/3000 33%

@abundant1972 bit late with this but I would say don't be too strict every month or it becomes too hard to maintain in the long run. You could maybe try two months of the tight budget and then relax it on the third or something so that you have some leeway?
I like these stories about keeping cash in the house. My parents don't do this but my dad's into model trains and my mum likes antiques, they have loads but they've never told me or my sister what anything is worth so we'll probably end up giving it away for much less than it's worth when the time comes!
Yesterday was a spend day as planned. We drove for two hours in the rain to this car-themed cafe we've wanted to go to for ages, luckily the rain stopped when we got there so we could walk around outdoors. Paid for food but all very reasonable. Really nice place, would go back again. Drove home and had a cheeky Maccy D's for dinner (got the McPlant burger, would definitely recommend as a vegetarian!). Ordered my niece a voucher for her birthday and was also naughty and bought two blouses on sale online. Will return if they're not suitable. Am trying to go by Martin's mantra of "do I need it? Can I afford it?" before I buy stuff. I'm earning a decent amount of money and have no debt (apart from my car service which I'll pay off asap) but I still want to be sensible.
Today is a NSD, have been to see my share horse and did some schooling. Weather was lovely and after a tricky start we had a good session. He even asked me for some ear rubs when I got off, which he doesn't do very often!7 -
Good evening
I hope everyone is having a good weekend.
another NSD for me today, I went to collect a pair of shoes I ordered before Christmas and was going to send them straight back but my mum decided she liked them so gave me the money. Another 3 items sold on Vinted yesterday so I posted them this morning too.
NSD 5/16+ (after claiming back Friday as a NSDI have no plans to spend any money this coming week, work is busy, daylight is short, so it shouldn't be too difficult. I have another trip to the seaside next weekend, so will be spending money then.
One more ring to close on my watch after the walk to collect the shoes this morning.
On to the next week, which I hope is kind to all.

Staying on NSD 3/16.Went to the shops for new underwear. DS got a giggle from the cashier when he said ‘Mum’s bra’ in a posh BBC accent and what more motivation does a 4-year-old need?‘Braaa’‘Braaaaa’‘Braaaaaaa’‘Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa’After bra-gate, we went to Wagamummy for lunch.Grateful today for a relaxing morning, negative second Covid tests, and a tasty lunch.NST 🐢 & MF before 40 🤸8

NSD 7 for me. Not left the house. Swallowed a few frogs, all food from stores, all laundry done, dried, folded, and returned to owners. Dull, but necessary.
