Another one who struggles with meal planning. I expect it works well once you get into the habit, it’s getting the habit ingrained that’s the hard part!
    Happy weekend 🌞

Definitely! I did do it a while back, but got out of the habit before Covid and never got back into it.
Have a good weekend yourself :)

Well I've well and truly had my wake up call today.  My blood test results were in the app, and they have increased from 42-45 😱  There's no pretending that that's a glitch or a one-off, it's a race to diabetes!

Clearly my small changes haven't had an impact, though I'm still going to celebrate them and continue, and I have got to do something about the chocolate habit and my eating habits overall.

So now I'm a bit like 'what the hell am I going to eat?'.  I know what I 'should' be eating, and that's ok, but I'm realising just how often I rely on convenience foods (or chocolate!) for something to just grab and go.  Whilst I recognise that's not a good thing overall, life happens and it's busy.

I need to get all my books out, get some books from the library and spend some time tomorrow sorting my head out and making a plan before I go shopping.

Sugar cravings are part and parcel of diabetes. Maybe of you started viewing the chocolate thing as part of your body's failing rather than a lack of willpower on your part it may give you a different view of things? There are lots of sugar free sweets available for those "have to have" moments. I used to buy my dad sugar free lollipops because lollipops were his favourite but Aldi do sugar free sweets too, I can remember sherbet lemons and mints but forget the other kind.

I had gestational diabetes because I had to take steroids when I was pregnant (I was allergic to the baby, I kid you not) and the slimming world eating model minus the "syns" kept me full and off insulin. I wouldn't say it kept me happy because I cried from 16 weeks pregnant until I had him 3 weeks early, but I didn't go hungry.
  • Okay, you had your wake-up call today . However, no need to panic imho
I'm obviously no expert , but as I mentioned a couple of pages ago it's much harder with family . What I mean by that is you would have to say no to pizzas / takeaway etc.
( correct me if you don't have any of this ) .  I'm obviously guessing .

The annoying thing about ' proper' 'organic ' food and the like , is that it costs more unfortunately but imho it does work .  Avoid fizzy drinks like woka cola / lemonade etc .
The diet stuff has artificial sweeteners which are ..just crap really .  Cut sugar from tea/ coffee and again avoid sweeteners . Bread should be organic / artisan ( natural )
I won't go on about the food stuff too much, and you eat more healthily than me I'd say .

The main thing in this great diary , is that you have started taking positive steps and what you'll eventually do is second nature by adapting to the gradual changes.
As I say, if you can stick to walking routine , adjust the food gradually  things will be going in a much better direction .

As you pointed out , look at the positives and carry on . Ignore the scales for 6 weeks , and put it to the back of your mind . You have a nice family which will stop you pondering anyway .

Hope I haven't said too much . I just thought I'd share my struggles and pointers I've taken on board .

    I'll leave it there ..😼

Thank you, that's a really good thought about how I view the chocolate.  I am going to follow SW principles again, it's easiest to follow.  I'm sorry you had such a tough pregnancy though!  That must have been a nightmare.

Thank you :)  I really value everyone's advice on here, so I appreciate it all.  I am going to try and eat proper, decent food, following SW principles, but ignoring the syns for now (i.e. I'm eating proper yoghurt, not fat free stuff).  I am also going to take your advice and eat decent chocolate, and move away from cadburys (if anyone has shares in them, they might want to sell them as their profits will be decimated :D:D:D )  But. I am going to try not to buy chocolate for a while if I can.

Right, I am in a better frame of mind today - possibly as I was tired yesterday.  I had a good night's sleep last night and feel better today.

It was a shock, I can't pretend I wasn't in total denial, and thought it would be easy to turn around, especially as I wasn't in great mental and physical health at the time of the last blood test (which was only taken because I was having all the digestive issues).  So I should be grateful that it's been picked up early, and I have the chance to turn it around now.

I've gathered all my books together, and downloaded a couple from the library.  I'm going to spend today reading through them all and making a plan.

I'm back to shopping in store from this week, so I'll be able to get more variety and shop around.
