Good to read of you enjoying yourself.  Well done with chocolate.  :)

@Humdinger1sorry to hear of your diagnosis but it can be reversed. It is also possible to live well with diabetes if it is managed well.

Glad you had a nice weekend and well done in the no chocolate. Just wondering how many of us have gone to Google coverlover less duvets. I never knew they existed either till you said. Very tempted.
Thank you :)  I didn't know either until I was googling to try and find something washable for kids beds.  The kids ones I got from Matalan, and they are lovely, but they don't do a king size one.

This is the one I have gone for.  It should arrive tomorrow, so I'll let you know what it's like https://www.finebedding.co.uk/collections/bedding-duvets/products/night-owl?variant=19742368202814

@jwil only on p90 but jumping in as I've been diagnosed with full-blown diabetes.  I have about 2 stone to lose.  It was a massive shock but am now firmly with the programme.  Some cases can be reversed and that is what I'd love to do.  I've been massively overdoing the carbs for years and I know it. Plus eating cake over lockdown...lots and lots of cake followed by Marmite on toast. And the chocolate; well, surely it would have been rude not to, with it glaring at me?!  After the first weeping and ranting was over,  I actually reflected on how lucky I was to have it picked up.  Will return with comments on what's helped but wanted to let you know how much I love your diary and how appreciated you are.  Onwards and upwards love Humdinger xx
Hi Humdinger, that's lovely of you to say that, and thanks for reading!

I think lockdown ruined me too.  I've gone from fat but healthy to even fatter and starting to get unhealthy.  It's definitely a shock to the system.  I will really appreciate any tips you (and anyone else) can provide me.

I think I'm getting there with breaking the chocolate habit, but I am realising just how much I rely on carbs, I didn't think I did, as I don't eat chips, or much in the way of potato.  I do eat loads of rice, and some pasta.  I've switched to brown rice, but I love risotto rice too.  Toast (wholemeal) is my go to breakfast when I'm in a hurry!  I do have it with salmon pate rather than jam these days, but I am a little uncertain still.another_casualty said:
Glad the weekend break was good .
Good to see that you found out what Cadbury chocolate is really like .

@Humdinger1 sorry to hear about your diagnosis . However , it does seem that you are in the right frame of mind to reduce and possibly defeat it . The initial shock of being told the bad news is always the hardest part , but facing it full on and conquering / minimalising it is the way forward .
@retiredandskint , I haven't read your diary but you seem to be managing everything really well with what has been thrown at you .

Anyway, I'll leave it there ..😼
Thank you :)  You have been warning me for months (years?!) about Cadbury's chocolate.  I listen eventually :D:D:D:D

I hope this isn't a hijack; or worse still, dreadfully, dreadfully dull...but a few hacks I've found that keep blood sugar under control are

    1.  Rye bread.  DH makes it.
    2.  Poppadoms.
    3.  Not too often...butbthe diabetes nurse told me that roasted root veg (inc potatoes) are good as the fat breaks the sugar down more slowly.

I’m not getting this coverless duvet idea. Do you wash the whole duvet every week the same as you would your duvet cover 🤷🏻‍♀️. I’m thinking that’s so such more hassle 🤣

sounds like you’ll will get some good ideas from other readers for your blood sugar.
