Oh Lordy Lordy I feel sorry for anyone sorting out my stuff when I shuffle off!!
Today I got a brocade blazer by Next Tailoring for £6 and it appears unworn. It has dull copper, silver and gold abstract leaves on a navy background and I plan on wearing it with dark indigo jeans, white t-shirt and white plain trainers to dress it down a bit!8 -
Tenbury today (for volunteering) so popped into the charity shops as I was early.
From the autism charity shop:
Mistral cotton dressMantaray cotton top
Both appear brand new. They don't label things so I think it was £5 in total.9 -

I did see a handbag that I picked up in there, but it was made from crocodile skin! Eek.I've driven past it but never stopped. Will make the effort if you recommend it.No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.5 -

The second hand shop I bought my furniture from was Les & Gary's, also on London Road on the same side of the road. They are a family business and have been there since 1976. I have bought quite a few items from them for my new house.:)
(Not to be confused with Des & Barry's furniture shop that is almost opposite on London Road. One of the owners told me the guy moved there and opened a used furniture shop too and ripped off their name!)6 -
I am a charity shop vetran. I am getting rather fed up with them. Recently I have bought items where the sizing was completely wrong. My local Oxfam is a repeat offender, though I still buy cards etc to support their 3rd world charities. Recently I bought some clothing and had to return them. At the time of purchase, the shop was very busy and the person at the till was overwhelmed and I didn't get a receipt. I paid cash and when I got home the garments were not the right size. I went back to the shop and the manageress was extremely rude. She said that I should have asked for a receipt and accused me of stealing the clothes! I left the clothes with her to sell again, but will never return to that branch.8

Mistral is a brand I've recently discovered. It seems good quality.
I'd have bought that dress too.madmarch said:I am a charity shop vetran. I am getting rather fed up with them. Recently I have bought items where the sizing was completely wrong. Do you mean the shops put the wrong size on the hanger?
Or is the item size 10 and would fit a size 14?
I take no notice of any size labels or hanger labels.
Sometimes the shop picks up the US size so something on a size 10 hanger is actually a UK 14.
And some brands fit small and some fit big.
I look from size 10 to size 14-16.
I persuaded my friend to try on a size 8 Mantaray dress in the sale (she's a 12-14). She said it wouldn't fit but it looked larger than an 8 to me. It fit perfectly.
I guess you've learned a hard lesson about receipts.
I would have been furious about the manager's attitude though.
If I buy something in my local Air Ambulance where everything is £2.00 I don't bother with receipts because if it doesn't fit, I'll just re-donate it and treat the £2.00 as a one-off donation.
If I'm unsure of the size, I'll try it on (I've noticed that shops are reopening their changing rooms) and make sure I get a receipt.
Talking of Air Ambulance, yesterday I bought:
a Quechua (Decathlon) zip up fleece in a fab mint/purple check
a FatFace long sleeved top in grey with maroon, mustard and cream tiny flower pattern.
Both £2.00 each.

That's no excuse for outright rudeness. One can only hope that it was a momentary blip due to a busy day or bad weather or something. I think I'm lucky in sounding massively innocent what with my non brit accent - it has helped me charm many a grump (other than the him indoors!)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
