Another car boot bargain for me: a 1934 book on economical cooking - 20p. What I've read so far is fascinating: for instance advice to pay cash and carry your shopping home. What could be more current?!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I popped into my favourite BHF shop this morning on my way to the supermarket.
I snapped up a glass dome for £3, it looks lovely on top of my cake stand which was a find from last year or 2020 I think. I also found a Potato Marketing Board cookbook, £1, which includes some intriguing recipes such as Fruit & Spice Loaf and Lemon & Nutmeg Pudding, a plastic sleeve book to use for loose recipes, £1, and a 3D Christmas Tree Cookie pack, £2. Here they are.
I'm fascinated to see that the address given on the back of the cookbook for the Potato Marketing Board is Hans Crescent, Knightsbridge which strikes me as a very expensive location even in 1934 when the Board was set up.
@Rosa_Damascena - I've just realised that I hadn't put a link to the no-churn ice-cream recipe on this thread and had assumed that you had seen the link I'd added to one of my posts on a different thread so apologies for that. Most of the ones I like are by Nigella and this link here will show you some of hers Recipe Search Results | Nigella's Recipes | Nigella Lawson. Then last week I tried this one Best No Churn Lemon Ice Cream Recipe - How to Make Lemon Ice Cream (food52.com) and it was delicious and easy plus I substituted some of the double cream for fat free greek style yoghurt and the result was wonderfully creamy so I might repeat that when I make it again. Apologies again for not being especially bright this week, goldfinches.7 -
Apologies for the size of the photos.
I'm not sure how to make them smaller.

@goldfinches, that's a good haul! I suspect cake stand domes get broken more often than bases so you did well to find one.
I have one of those Christmas Tree biscuit kits: DS1 made it using gingerbread and it was very effective.
@CAFCGirl, that's a super transformation! I can't find the original lettering at all.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

do you think the metal pan is crucial for the ice cream? Lazy me thinks a plastic pot with a lid would work although it may take a couple of extra minutes to get the cold through.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Rosa_Damascena said:Miró said:Oh the joy of coming across a basket of scarves each priced at 25p and finding two pure silk onesThe pinky/purply one is hyooge - more like a shawl. The red/green one is neckerchief sized. Sunday in Northallerton I got a nice Jaegar silky jersey long sleeved top in a dark olive shade, cotton/silk mix and perfect to go with a silk georgette skirt, in multiple shades of green, I’ve had for yonks but not had owt to go with it. £7 in the CRUK shop. Today in the Ripon CRUK shop I found an M & S fitted dress in a burnt orange shade with fancy seaming and a fancy gold zip at the back, bit of a bright colour for me, will have to wear it on one of my ‘confident’ days!! Also £7.9

Miro, would you mind if I take up low-level silk scarf envy? Mostly as those colours are glorious, but also you can drape them next your skin, which is a bit less possible with Denby!8
