Managed to get to a few charity shops in Ferndown yesterday - mostly on the excuse that I've got a car full of "junk" from our office building that is closing. Not that it's junk but stuff that has been left behind by retreating staff members - some expensive jackets, lots of desk accessories, silly christmas gifts that have never been taken home/used.
I was actually searching for a bonsai type planter for a trio of succulents that have taken up residence on the table on our deck. They need a shallow pot so that they don't get water logged as they will be pretty happy being mostly dried out. Nowt to be found though.
Anyhoo - I did find a copy of the book The Civil War for £1. For those not familiar with this - it's the book from the 1990 PBS tv series by Ken Burns. Absolutely stunning historical telling of the American civil war using photos taken at that time(1860s so astounding) and letters and other documents read by a list of actors from Derek Jacobi to Morgan Freeman. The 9? hour series is shown regularly on the PBS channel on Freeview. I'm neither a history freak or one who really is interested in violent conflicts but this is really quite fascinating.

Oh and having got home with the book which I thought the OH would enjoy reading I was informed he already has it. Well he'd bought it for his dad years back and so we already had a copy. So it's going to a friend today - he cuts our hair and is the type to watch this sort of thing so not wasted. I had another person in mind that might like it as well but if neither of those are interested I'll return it the next time I'm dropping off more of the "junk" still in my car.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Fruitful day yesterday in Northallerton.
3 books Sue Ryder, 75p on two, and £1 on one - Horrible Science books and a fiction for DS
2 books £1 each in Yorkshire Cancer.
Also spotted a lovely shaped glass cannister with a thick cork lid which I figured would make a lovely mini terrarium. Then discovered when I got it home, the price label on the front had actually been covering the etching of 'tea' on it.
I tried to dissolve the etching with vinegar trick but no such luck... so I will instead use my crafting machine and create a stick to go on it which will cover the wording and should still look rather cute... £1.50 spent on that.
Upon leaving spotted another section of jigsaw puzzles and found a lovely 'Tree of Life' 1000 piece puzzle so that'll be nice to complete and stick on my IG page. Currently on Amazon for £21.99 and cost me £2.50.Wealth is not measured by currency8 -
@CAFCGirl
can't you just turn the "tea" to the back and put a bit of greenery in front of it??I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. I know it's the middle of the night but my eyelids are being very stubborn so I'm whiling away the hours on this and various other sites.
I dropped into my favourite BHF shop on my way home from the library at the end of the afternoon and snapped up these four items.
I'm planning to use the baking tin for no-churn ice-cream as it's a nice strong one that will be ideal in the freezer which will mean I don't have to use my especially nice brownie tin for that any longer. I've fallen in love with the idea of making sweets after leafing through Claire Ptak's book so I'm now on the lookout for a marble slab.5
