Really delighted to find a air of Duo black knee high boots in my size that actually fit around my gatepost legs (over skinny jeans even.) They have a squarish toe and a inch heel. Soles look fine and they have recently been reheeled £12.9

Miró said:For a while I have been on the look out for a hand knitted, large sized, pure wool, aran sweater in good condition. My idea was to unpick it, wind the wool into hanks and gently wash, (to freshen and get the kinks out), then re-ball and knit into something more my taste. Well, today was the day in Oxfam, they had just the sweater, priced at £5.99. I thought the pattern was a little bit strange for the usual cable knitty aran stylee. Got it home and when examining it, (moths for e.g.???), I realised it had been inside out on the hanger and, in fact, it is a beautiful aran pattern!! Now I dunno what to do.....just wash and keep as is as it seems a shame to destroy that beautiful work or go ahead with my original plan!!!
I've been quite lucky lately in that the EACH (East Anglian Children's Hospice) shops had a half price sale. Came away with four different jumpers/cardigans for the grand total of £10.50. One of them was a Barbour lambswool cable sweater with a tiny hole in it. It had a very tight polo neck which I cut off and now it fits really well. Must have been expensive back in the day

I think I would be tempted to keep the jumper as is, if I like it and would wear it as it is (obviously)..... or if I live in fear that what I might create wouldn't end up as nice/I'll regret my choice LOL
Some good buys today.
Back to Yorkshire Cancer shop - 3 books for £1 so bought 6, 3 of which were a series! My trait of buying a book 2 or 3 was scuppered (thankfully). Look forward to reading those. Plus one on Scottish Myths and Legends, and two easy reads.
Also purchased £1 monkey soft toy all stitching and no safety eyes. I buy them for the dog. Within 5 minutes, it had its innards completely drained and the dog was nice and relaxed from his destructive efforts... hence why I don't bother buying actual dog toys because he can destroy the indestructibles within 10 minutes!
Sue Ryder still had the dinner plate size BN cork placemats from my last visit so snapped those two up for crafting exploits, £3 per pack. Plus 2 books as well.
Fruitful day. Although my search for a denim jacket continues...Wealth is not measured by currency10 -
Thanks everyone for your comments…..yep I think I will be keeping the sweater as is. I gave it a gentle hand wash today but as I don’t have a tumble dryer it will probably take a month to dry as it’s so thick and heavy! It will deffo have to be styled as an ‘oversized’ sweater probably with skinny jeans and boots but it will be wonderfully warm. I just could not bring myself to destroy it in order to knit something fairly similar! I shall be keeping my eyes open for another one to re-purpose now, perhaps in a colour. I’m still amused at not noticing it was inside out til I got it home…..(I have an appointment at the opticians next week, not a joke!

Has it always been the case that buying an old jumper is cheaper than buying new wool to knit one?5

Also, it's very hard to find pure new wool yarn at a reasonable price these days! Most yarn now seems to be an acrylic mix at best, (yuk, hate the feel of knitting with acrylic). I found a knitting pattern for a jacket/cardi thingy recently and costed out how much it would be to knit.....just shy of £100!!!!! I'd much rather spend a little time and effort to re-purpose, save money and possible save something from landfill.10 -
