cbsexec said:I wish I had £1 or even £2 clearance shops near me! Not sure where I would find my nearest one either. I wonder if charity shop prices will come down as the cost of living increases take hold. I did buy a dress and jeggings in the M&$ sale total £10 mischief cheaper than my local charity shops.
SO, whilst hubby did get my stuff off to another branch of the local hospice shop, in the next town over so I wouldn't be trawling through my own throw outs for the next few weeks, he has not gone through his stuff at all. sigh.Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Jan 2012: £16,000+ [STRIKE] Credit Card & Overdraft Debts Sep 2013: £13,023 [/STRIKE]

M & S cream chinos, £3 as new. B/n leather belt navy one side tan the other, perfect for jeans £1. Paco Rabanne 50ml bottle of Ultraviolet EDP....this is b/n in the box sealed in a cellophane wrapper, £10, (RP around £45), on the proviso it can be returned for a refund if it has 'gawn orft'. Just looked it up in my perfume bible. The much respected and honest author describes it thus......"the bathrooms in hell must smell like this. Aggressively and blindingly horrible, the worst part of the grape flavour bolstered by the strongest artificial sweet amber concocted by man or devil". Oh dear!!!5

mrsjaw said:Hello everyone, I've read these pages for years but this is the first time I've posted on here!
I think I'm very lucky in this area - I volunteer in the local hospice £1 clearance shop and we get some absolute fabulous bargains in there. I have a theory that the stuff is priced too highly at other shops and subsequently doesn't sell so it ends up with us. I have frequently seen new stuff with labels attached.
We also have a 2 x £2 Air Ambulance clearance shop within a short drive so I go to see if they have any bargains every couple of weeks. Sometimes I'm very lucky and sometimes I'm not!
The trouble is these bargain shops certainly spoil me for all the other shops where I find some of the prices eye watering.
Today I bought a pair of jeans for £2, they look as if they haven't been wornNo man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.4 -
I bought a dress branded Minus which is a Scandinavian company.
It's a shift dress with full length sleeves in a fab dark green velour with hints of burgundy and gunmetal grey flowers and a turtle neck.
It's mid-knee length on me and I'm unsure whether to shorten it but I'll wear it as it is and then decide.
£2.00 Air Ambulance

There's some pretty hideous styles on there.6 -

Anyhoo, today I was in the city centre and popped into the St Gemma's Hospice shop and picked up an as new summery dress for £3. Calf length, long sleeves, cotton lawn 'prairie stylee' in a ditsy black & green flower pattern. The label had been cut out but a little research revels that it is a Zara dress and originally sold for £45. Found one selling on EBay......
Yesterday I was in Otley and called into the St Gemma's Hospice shop there, (this is where I got the 12 yards of b/n gold damask curtain fabric from for 99p), and there sitting on a shelf was a boxed set of unopened very ornate gold & cream tasselled tie backs, also priced at 99p. I have a strong suspicion that both items were from the same source...the curtains never having got made up so were donated.!!! Soooo my task this week-end will be to install the tie backs!!7 -
I was in the next town along today and missed my bus back home by seconds. Sally Army CS next to the bus stop so went in to kill time. A mid grey Jaeger wool/cashmere skirt jumped out at me as I walked towards the books. At £4 I reckon it was meant to be and should look ok with thick black tights and ankle boots.
All that clutter used to be money6 -
2 books, including a thick hardback, Gregg Hurwitz, which is selling as new for £8 on Jeff's place, and £9 on W/Stones, looked unread for £1 and another interesting looking one in paperback also £1.
Pair of slim waisted jogging bottoms for DS £2.50

I am doing some very serious Charity Shopping thinking.....
I won't stop going to the shops any time soon as it's always fun to have a nosey around. And as an ex antique dealer and the child of a serious antique dealer and art collector I know that there can be some lovely things to be found in odd places.
BUT
My major focus in the shops is first and foremost scarves. I admit it - they are my kryptonite. I love the colours, the feel of silk, how nice it is to choose something lovely to accent my mostly dull wardrobe of black trousers and single colour tops. And that's what I wear to work when I go to the office and also when I go out - which happens very very rarely. But I've got a work crisis happening which means I'm unlikely to be employed in a few months. So I must find a way to stop myself buying any more scarves. But how???!!!?!?!
The only things I can think of is to trawl the shops to get items I can resell on ebay (unlikely to be profitable) or find some hobby that requires items that are best found in charity shops. I have started art classes again so helpful "how to" books would be good but I only need so many.
FYI - Frankly I'm less bothered about being unemployed than not having a reason to have scarves!!! When I heard the news I was find but then that particular penny dropped and it was my only major "catch my breath" moment in the last week. I obviously need help!!!
