I'm another fan of scarves, shawls and brooches but for just a couple of pounds each why not? I never thought I would end up channeling Rita from Coronation Street!
Found a pair of barely used black jeans in my size at the £2 chazzer at the weekend. They are George so probably less than £20 new but still a nice surprise. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.5 -

I won't stop going to the shops any time soon as it's always fun to have a nosey around. And as an ex antique dealer and the child of a serious antique dealer and art collector I know that there can be some lovely things to be found in odd places.
BUT
My major focus in the shops is first and foremost scarves. I admit it - they are my kryptonite. I love the colours, the feel of silk, how nice it is to choose something lovely to accent my mostly dull wardrobe of black trousers and single colour tops. And that's what I wear to work when I go to the office and also when I go out - which happens very very rarely. But I've got a work crisis happening which means I'm unlikely to be employed in a few months. So I must find a way to stop myself buying any more scarves. But how???!!!?!?!
The only things I can think of is to trawl the shops to get items I can resell on ebay (unlikely to be profitable) or find some hobby that requires items that are best found in charity shops. I have started art classes again so helpful "how to" books would be good but I only need so many.
FYI - Frankly I'm less bothered about being unemployed than not having a reason to have scarves!!! When I heard the news I was find but then that particular penny dropped and it was my only major "catch my breath" moment in the last week. I obviously need help!!!
I'm not sure that either of these suggestions will be helpful to you, if they're not just tell me to take a running jump.
Set aside some money into a professional achievements budget now and then use looking for a scarf as a reward for completing stages in handover, job application forms, interviews etc.
Have a personal declutter and winnow through your clothes, accessories and so on and put them on ebay, vinted and other sites and then after you've refunded yourself for the postage and packing put what is leftover into a scarf pot for you to dip into when you see one you love.
PS you might find this site helpful Ask a Manager, it's very strong on ways to negotiate terms when a business is letting employees go and also how to express your achievements when searching for a new job. Despite being an American site there are quite a lot of regular UK based commenters and many aspects of employment are the same wherever you are.
I managed to hobble into the centre of town today but didn't have the energy to visit my favourite BHF shop, hopefully I'll feel like going that far sometime this week.9 -

@goldfinches
Thanks for the website...I'm mid Atlantic (but from the better side of the 49th!) so the fact it's US won't bother me much.
@Miró
Nice idea about the treats.
I was talking through the scarf situation at the office yesterday (my addiction is well known) and mentioned I might set up a hanging dryer rack in our tiddly back bedroom. I could hang all my scarves from that and go in and enjoy them all daily.

Yesterday I bought a Nutmeg (Morrisons) new pinafore dress in navy/black/fawn check.
And a fabulous sleeveless little black dress in chiffon with a full lining and black beading for about 5 inches all round the hem (which makes it hang really nicely) and black beading on the front. Labels cut out so not sure what brand but it looks and feels expensive. Slightly tight so an incentive to lose a few pounds before next Christmas.
£2.00 from Air Ambulance.
Oh...and this bargain:
has more than repaid the outlay.Pollycat said:I got a pretty good bargain yesterday from Air Ambulance:
a Hammond & Co (established 1776) crombie style coat for OH.
Herringbone wool with a navy lining, it's in very good condition with one of the 3 outside pockets still stitched up.
It's this one without the velvet collar:

Fits perfectly and looks very smart.
£2.00
OH has worn it every time he's been out since I bought it on 19th January and has had some admiring comments.8 -

Otherwise the last couple of days have proved to be a little on the expensive side re chazza bargains. Still it goes with my intended approach of quality over quantity. Got a lovely mid calf length A line pure wool skirt in purple with its own leather belt for £5.99 in the St Michaels Hospice chazza in Ripon. Then I got a pair of smart Jones the Bootmaker's patent leather court shoes in a wine colour with a slightly higher than kitten heel, B/N for £6 from the St Martin House Hospice shop. And finally I found a burgundy, pure wool, cable knit long line sweater by Woolover for £5.45 in the BHF shop.7 -

Yesterday I got a fatface t shirt for £3.50, a white stuff cardi for £3.75, m&s work trousers for sub £4 and a couple of dvds for 50p or a £1 each. Pretty happy, especially with the t shirt, it's a gorgeous green.

South military/biker dark grey velvet jacket missing a few buttons but I have some lovely brass ones with stars on that will lift it £4.
Pink fabric shoulder bag with a big glittery star and leather trim £1
i have realised that I live in a uniform of jeans, plain black, grey or white top(or if I’m being daring, a Breton top), boots or white trainers. So bags and jackets are my variety.
Blue with white stars Tu fleecy top, possibly loungewear but I’ll wear outside £1.50.
3 pastry forks £1
A navy velour sweatshirt £1.
A vintage style poster in a frame of bicycles, all in French £3. Why does French writing make it cooler?
3 more items to donate: 20 in 23 out.6 -

I spotted a beautiful scarf that I could use as a shoulder wrap, then another, then another.....and then one more. Plus another good sized stainless steel teapot: 5 items for £5 in total. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.6
