So good to see things are ticking along nicely with the mortgage.
I had a similar problem with my outgoings so all my direct debits are with one account and I transfer a set amount each month to my Starling account for my food, social etc. That means I dont need to worry that my direct debits aren`t accounted for.
It helpfully pings every time I make a purchase and I know once my ` allowance` is gone it`s gone!2 -
I have a ‘bills’ account too so I know that they’re always accounted for. It’s just the everyday spends I need to keep an eye on so that I don’t have to dip into savings 🤦♀️Starting a new debt free journeyStarting Debt: £5,250Current Debt: £4,995.50Amount Paid: £254.50 Percentage Paid: 4.84%Emergency Fund: £3501

I had an email from the bank this morning to say that the funds have been released so hopefully they will have cleared with the conveyancer tomorrow and they’ll close the first mortgage tomorrow and send the money over to my ex.I have 2 days left of my grocery week and have just over £11 out of the £75 plus a £10 Morrisons voucher (Topcashback were offering £2 bonus cashback on the 1st July). I shouldn’t need to buy anything over the next 2 days so I think I’ll transfer what’s leftover to a Monzo pot and build up a buffer in case there are any more expensive weeks.
I’ve worked out a bit of a budget for the Summer holidays, worked out how much I have in the pot and have picked some activities that come under the budget. I’ve got a notebook where it’s all written down and I’m determined to stick to it!Starting a new debt free journeyStarting Debt: £5,250Current Debt: £4,995.50Amount Paid: £254.50 Percentage Paid: 4.84%Emergency Fund: £3504 -

Well, the mortgage is now solely in my name. My ex is still on the deeds for now, it’s just waiting for that to be finalised.I’ve switched from shopping in Aldi/Tesco to going back to home deliveries. I have the delivery saver anyway (I pay for it using Tesco vouchers) and the money I save by shopping in Aldi gets spent in petrol. Also my work hours are increasing to full time (though it feels like I’m full time already) so having a home delivery is a time saver. My next shop is due on Thursday so I’ve pretty much completed it (unless I think of anything extra tomorrow) and it’s currently coming to just under £65. My budget for this month is £75 a week so I’m under budget but it feels like an expensive one. That’s mainly because I’m buying a few bigger items that will be separated and used over a few weeks. It works out cheaper in the long run. There are a few things I could change to make it cheaper, and I actually may take one or two things off tomorrow to leave a bigger buffer, but we’ll see.
I bought a few things today for our holiday in August, but they all came out of my holiday pot so haven’t touched July’s spends. I have also bought new pillows for us all from July’s spending pot as they were all so out of shape I felt bad every time I changed the bed sheets. I thought they’d be quite pricey (it had been years since I last bought pillows) but I got 6 for £28 so not too bad. I need to get rid of the old ones now so wondering what’s the best option for them?Starting a new debt free journeyStarting Debt: £5,250Current Debt: £4,995.50Amount Paid: £254.50 Percentage Paid: 4.84%Emergency Fund: £3502 -
I’ve updated my signature with my mortgage info. I’ve also added a mortgage overpayment pot to Monzo and I’d love to be able to add 10% of my monthly mortgage amount to it every month so that I’m overpayment the maximum amount possible. Any overpayment will be great though.
I had £11.99 left in my food shop this week so transferred that over to Monzo and split it between the mortgage overpayment pot and another new pot I’ve started which is our grocery buffer. Building this up will mean if I have an expensive month for whatever reason, I have money saved from cheaper months to cover it rather than taking from savings or taking from other pots.
I didn’t take anything from my Tesco order so it is still just under £65. That will leave £10 in case I need any top ups during the week. I do also have a £10 Morrisons voucher and I was asked if I wanted to share a £25 voucher for a local pound shop so may use my share to stock up on things like bin bags, washing up liquid, fabric conditioner, etc. I may do that next week.

I’m thinking I may start a diary over on the mortgage free wannabe board rather than continue here. I feel like July is month zero on my journey to becoming mortgage free and that’s where my diary would fit best.
