An account at Barclays could work - I might see if they can let me have an account as well as keep the FD account.
Or.... you could open an account at Nat West, RBS, Nationwide, Lloyds, HSBC........ etc etc.... or ALL of them.

I have seen lots of replies suggesting OP set up a Direct Debit but OP has not addressed this option or an excuse for not having one.  Does the FD account not allow Direct Debits?  There is no easier option that Direct Debit as you literally have to do nothing.

DD means no control so the amount just gets taken and I don't know when so end up overdrawn

Minimum payment direct debit is an option.

I don't understand why you think there is no control.  You will get a statement showing the amount that will be collected by DD (either minimum amount or full balance depending on what you set up) and it will show the date it will be collected.

How do you get your statements then? As it quite clearly shows what your statement balance is and the day on which they will take the DD.

Mine shows this so I would assume yours does!

Yes, I get the statement in the post, but if I don't act on it then I'd end up overdrawn automatically.  Current process of receive the statement and arrange payment guarantees that funds are there before taken to pay the card.

Okay so why would you be less likely to ensure you have enough funds to cover the DD than ensuring you have enough funds to cover a cheque (that you have to write and post)?

Throughout this bizarre thread you are convinced that the issue is Barclaycard but it really isn't, the issue is that there is something wrong with the addresses or markers on your First Direct account so that you are not receiving the debit cards.  I would be extremely worried if they were sending me cards and I wasn't getting them - this definitely needs addressing with FD.
