Clarification please! Are you calling FD to make the payment or Barclaycard? Might it be easier to get Barclaycard to pull the payment online if you can't do it through FD??

Last month I called FD. It was painful.
This month I called Barclaycard. 45 minutes to pay by phone.0 -
Right so you called Barclaycard!Grumpy_chap said:Last month I called FD. It was painful.

Bloody hell this is like pulling teeth .
Surely Barclaycard have an automated payment system?
Edit - I just rang 0333 200 9090 and within the very first seconds its said press 1 to use the automated service. Why does this take 45 minutes? You dont need to speak to an actual human2 -
Yes but can you do online banking with Barclaycard and pull the payment that way? Or is that what you need the FD card for? I would have thought there was a way to enter bank details, sort code & account.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. It sounded like to me he doesnt even have a debit card with First Direct but now he is saying he rang Barclaycard to pay his bill, and surely he needs a debit card to do this.Brie said:Yes but can you do online banking with Barclaycard and pull the payment that way? Its all a bit confusing.
If he DOES have a First Direct debit card all he needs to do is ring that 03 number I posted above and go through the automated line to make a payment. Why on earth does this take 45 minutes to do?2 -
Yeah - I get what you're saying @emmajones1976. Must admit I've had similar problems with Barclaycard as it wasn't showing up the way the person from their customer service said it would and they couldn't verify as (unlike Grumpy) they had sent me several cards and I had no way of knowing which one was live on their system! Same problem again today with Santander - I should be able to do things online but some stuff just doesn't show when I log in. So I had something to do that would take a minute via secure messaging but ended up with me 45 minutes trying to get through to someone.emmajones1976 said:If he DOES have a First Direct debit card all he needs to do is ring that 03 number I posted above and go through the automated line to make a payment. That's correct - no card of any kind at FD.emmajones1976 said:It sounded like to me he doesnt even have a debit card with First Direct but now he is saying he rang Barclaycard to pay his bill, and surely he needs a debit card to do this.
Everyone wants to blame FD where it is Barclaycard that are the problem.
Last month, I eventually paid by telephone from FD, but it was painful experience.
This month, I went through the process yesterday of phone FD to transfer the amount of the bill to my business account with Barclays.
Then, went online to Barclays to pay using the debit card on the business account.
That got refused. (Reason unknown, even after speaking with them)
Today I called Barclaycard to pay from the business account using the debit card.
Took 45 minutes.

I have no idea why, did you use the automated payment system?
Absolutely staggered you dont have internet banking OR even a bloody debit card with First direct yet your wife wont let you move 😂 what do you use to buy day to day shopping and the like?1 -
That is correct. No card of any kind with FD. Nor internet banking with FD. This is our personal accounts.emmajones1976 said:Absolutely staggered you dont have internet banking OR even a bloody debit card with First direct yet your wife wont let you move 😂 what do you use to buy day to day shopping and the like?
Most shopping on credit card.
Local shops like newsagents take cash.
Cheque for paying the credit card once a month by post.
Do have debit card plus online banking with Barclays - company business account. Cannot make a habit of using the business account to process personal transactions - it will cause no end of confusion.0
