  • That's me moved to Octopus now from EDF for gas. I just got a bill for the standing charges 4th-15th DEC at cash rates so had to call them again out of principle.....they said they are pairing down the support provided in Manilla due to the complaints from customers. My final bill was actually correct. Good riddance to EDF.

Noticed they have done that to me as well for period 16th - 26th December.  I remember at the time I opted for direct debit as soon as I reasonably could. Had an unhelpful live chat where I was told that I have should have given regular meter reads, to not be billed based on estimate (they had monthly reads). Then a ramble from the live chat agent about the tariff

'I would like to inform you that from 15 Dec 21 - 26 Dec 21 the price of the unit rate is 4.078p. The price seems higher becuase at that point of time the price of the tariff was higher. Since you are on variable tariff the price keep changes and changed to 3.872p and if you check the period 01 Apr 22 - 29 May 22 the unit rate was even higher that is 7.014p.

Please be rst assured, you have been charged correctly as per the tariff rate.

The SVT is keep changes as per market rate. When we took over the supply the rate was higher and when the SOLR tariff get expired and choose DD the rate is lower and the recent price cap increase the unit rate is again higher.

Since you were on variable tariff the proce of the tariff keep changes as per market rate.

    you have been charged correctly.

Then a further ramble form the agent.

I would like to inform you that your contract is transferred to EDF with payment method Cash/ Cheque (Monthly) dated 08.12.2021 and the unit rate was 4.078p

You have opted the payment method Budget Direct Debit (Monthly) on 27/12/2021 and from there the unit rate is 3.872p.

Said I was going to raise a complaint - so he offered my £ 10.00 as a gesture and we settled - another 45 minutes of my life stolen!

Manila, Philippines?? Their agents just cannot believe that a computer can be wrong - it is the gospel and infallible. Quite touching really. No, not really.

Are Octopus accepting transfers? Online or phone?

Didn’t EDF give a credit for the difference between direct debit prices & cash cheque prices if you set your direct debit up before 31/01? If I remember correctly, without scrolling through past pages, some of you were given more than you had expected & worked out yourselves. Could the difference not be part of that credit?

I sort of vaguely remember something said on this forum about that. Looking at my EDF bills nothing about any credit or credits for DD setup, no SOLR credits as none due so relatively simple.

EDF statements are to say the least ‘vague’. Look carefully and you should see an unexplained bill adjustment on one of the statements. Check it: you may find that it is incorrect.

I have recently ‘won’ a case with the EO because EDF refused to correct the DD adjustment made to a Final Bill even though I provided them with a simple calculation showing that there was an error.  I had my calculations checked by a FCA-accredited chief accountant of a major international insurance company ( my daughter) but even this wasn’t enough to persuade the EDF complaints team: if the computer says it’s right - it must be right! The computer was wrong.

Similar thing has happened to me; much nagging about 3rd June, bill produced - then required another reading for bill 24th June! Put a reading in again yesterday but now all mention of a bill for 24th June has disappeared !!

I have a "debit added" on 16 June of £53.73. There is no explanation. I imagine that it is an estimation for gas used since 28 May. Anyway, my EDF freedom day is just three days away.

Yes, i noticed the other day there is no mention on my account of a bill since they produced the last bill so not entirely sure.  I'm still waiting to hear from company I've asked to move to, apparently they have a back log but will be in touch when they do start mine so will have to chase again next week i guess.... Unfortunately couldn't do via there website as the website only has a option for Elec & gas and I just need to move gas so contacted via twitter and they have passed it all on so just waiting now... Did try phoning but no one was available in the team :(  Must be a busy time for them.

Just hoping when i do move away they goes smoothly and i get my credit refunded to me ok as apparently t wont move to the new supplier.
