When you read the email its easy to mistakenly think you are getting £5 for each D/D paid out since in the previous line they mentioned that you get £3.50 per D/D under the existing framework, and then goes on to say it will be £5 under the new one.  It then of course mentions you need to have 2 DDs going out to earn that reward, although it does not specifically say its £5 for both, and not each of the first two DD's, I assume it is the former and not the latter anyway.  It wasn't abundantly clear in its wording, but I assumed that effectively the fee will simply account for the the DDs and zero net gain.  Shame.

I will be keeping my account though for the time being at least seeing as my cash isa with them earns a rate of 1.25% and I still believe that's better or equal to anything and currently turns me over £10 a month in interest that I'd probably only get half that in the next best cash ISA for 10k.

Easily mistaken? It's their bold, too.
'Your loyalty reward - At the moment, you can earn a maximum of £7 a month (£3.50 for each of your first two Direct Debit payments). This will become £5 a month and you'll need two or more Direct Debits paid successfully from your chosen current account to earn this reward'

  • Received an email today - suffice to say it hasn't done anything to convince me to stick around.  Difficult to copy and paste, but this should give the gist:

We were in touch recently to let you know that Blue Rewards is changing. We’re now delighted to be able to tell you about some of the new benefits you’ll get as a member of Blue Rewards and what we have to offer you this December.

    What’s new?

As well as earning cash rewards based on the products you hold with us, you’ll now get new benefits such as regular offers from specially selected partners and invitations to prize draws.

This is our way of saying thank you for choosing us as your bank.

This December we have four exciting prize draws for you to enter.

You can enter all of them but, as always, please check the terms and conditions that apply to each one.

Win a pair of tickets to watch a Premier League match

Win a pair of tickets to watch a Barclays FA Women’s Super League match

Win a Harvey Nichols beauty gift box of Nars make-up or Pixi skincare worth £120

Win a £50 Marks and Spencer e-voucher to spend on food, clothing or things for your home

In addition to running the prize draws, we’ve partnered with Laithwaites Wine to offer you a third off a mixed case of six bottles of wine.

This offer gives you a fantastic £78.94 worth of wine for just £49.99, and you’ll get a free bottle of prosecco as well.

This carefully selected case will include gold medal winning claret, fruity Malbec from Argentina and oak-aged Rioja. There’s also a minerally fresh Petit Chablis, crisp pinot grigio with a pronounced ripe pear character and finally a tropical fruit scented, crowd pleasing New Zealand sauvignon blanc.

Delivery is free. Offer ends 14 January 2022.

We hope you’ve seen something you like and, if you enter the prize draws, we wish you luck. We’ll be in touch again in the New Year with more offers and prize draws, so keep an eye on your inbox.

  • Does anyone know when the last reward of £7 is paid for two direct debits? I am trying to figure out if I need to maintain two direct debits in March to receive the £7 reward in April or if the last payment is received in March. I've tried asking Barclays via the live chat in the Android app but the app is appalling and they keep providing me with irrelevant answers to the question.

I think it's more important to cancel at the right time than making one or two payments too many.

The reward for the previous month is usually paid on the 2nd working day of a month - at the same time as they charge the account fee for the last month. Up to 28 February 2022 the monthly fee is £4. From 1 March 2022 the monthly fee is £5. So, April 2022 will be the first month you pay the new monthly fee, unless you cancel Blue Rewards.

You can cancel before 5pm on the last day of the month, and they then won’t charge the next monthly fee.

I'll be cancelling my Reward after I have received the March payment. I will keep my DDs running, though, so I have (hopefully) a ready account to switch when the next suitable switch offer comes along.

So you are cancelling on March 2 after receiving payments for the last-pre-change February. Are you saying that you won't be charged the new £5 fee for March in this case even though one full day has passed in March?

I believe £5 fee is first charged in beginning of April.
March fee would still be £4.

Yes, I will be cancelling after March 2. "So, April 2022 will be the first month you pay the new monthly fee" is quoted verbatim from the linked Barclays website.
