However, when I last with Utility Point, they told me it can take up to SIX months to receive a final bill.So does this mean I will have two direct debits? One with Utility Point and the other with EDF? I plan to speak with Utility Point soon and ask them if I should cancel my direct debit with them now I have an active one with EDF.
My Utility Point direct debit disappeared about a week before my EDF direct debit appeared, looking via online banking. You know, that was such an obvious thing to check, but didn't bother to as I would have expected some sort of email from Utility Point to notify me they were cancelling the direct debit. Low and behold, I have just checked my direct debits and the Utility Point one has indeed been cancelled. This could be interesting, as I'm wondering if they've cancelled it in enough time for 01/12/2021, when my direct debit was next due with Utility Point. At least now I (hopefully) needn't worry about having two amounts coming out my account! But now I am wondering what will happen to the credit in my account, as EDF seemed to believe that Utility Point may either send it to them, or directly refund me. The final bill will also be another waiting game!Staffordian11 said:poppellerant said:So my gas is shortly due to go live with EDF, but for some reason my electricity's live date has been staggered. Now I currently have an active direct debit with Utility Point, which EDF have advised me to leave in place until I receive a final bill from Utility Point. I'm having one taken of £26 on 3 December for gas, another for £19 on 7 December for electricity then a further one on 20 December for £45 covering both. Then £45 monthly.
The direct debit listing on my bank's website no longer shows an active UP direct debit; just a replacement one for EDF.
I've no idea where they have the direct debit amounts from as I was paying roughly £39 summer and £78 winter for my UP tariff and I estimate my average monthly cost with EDF will be £91pm.
Still, I'd sooner owe them money than vice versa, and I've no doubt they'll bump up the payments pretty quickly once they have usage data from UP.The word of the emailing is raising red flags with me, particularly the "first gas payment" bit. Does this mean they will take another amount for electricity, or is this actually the combined amount?EDF weren't able to change dates or amounts for me as it was relatively early doors for their systems in terms of my account being new. I was told that they could only see one direct debit which they assumed would be combined.Either way, £50/pcm is too high for just my gas and too low for my combined gas and electricity. If they think they can just wallop it up to £££ purely to get my account in credit, they can do one. The credit from Utility Point should be plenty to keep their coffers topped up.0 -

With regards to the amount it does look like it’s for the gas only, the accounts seem to be staggered so you will get another notification for the electricity probably soon. What were you paying monthly with UP & how was it split?1 -
I've now got my "Welcome to EDF" email and finally been able to set up an account. No details beyond that at the moment though - the account tells me I'm a direct debit customer but doesn't confirm what will be taken or when. It also suggests I "Register for online billing" but I'm assuming I don't need to do this as they've said in the correspondence that I'll continue to manage my account online as I did with UP, so I suspect it's just that currently the online account hasn't been populated with all the details.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

But until they can change direct debit amounts etc, I'm stuck with that price for now.0 -
My first payment being taken on the 9 December and then the 1st thereafter. However when I do go live shortly I will ask them to set up the direct debit and take the whole amount each month.0

not sure if anybody has already mentioned this but when I logged onto my UP account today the name of the tariff has changed to "EDF Welcome_DD"
So looks like they are getting ready to produce final UP bills2 -

I have received EDF's Direct Debit info. it is 50% of Utility Points previous (correct) DD, and less than a third of what I calculate the DD should be using EDF's tariff rates.
I have called EDF and increased the DD to my calculated figure.
If I had left the EDF Direct Debit in place I could have been owing at least £1000 by the next DD Review date.
Thank you EDF for risking me going into serious debt.0 -
