Can EDF proceed further without getting closing readings (and closing balances?) from UP?

I'd be uneasy blaming them for things outwith their control.
There's no problem getting the information from UP - straightforward data transfer which the administrators are keen to complete.

The problem is that EDF haven't detailed enough people to process it.

Fair enough. I foolishly assumed that the administrators of UP would use UP's systems to produce a bill up to 18 Sept then once processed pass details to EDF. Didn't realise EDF were doing Up's final billing.

    • Your closing account statement with Utility Point: we’re working with Utility Point to finalise this and it will be sent by Utility Point. It’ll show your closing balance and your usage up to when you transfer to us. This won’t be a request for payment – the balance shown on your statement will be transferred to us and added to your new EDF account (this includes credit balances too). This might take some time so please bear with us.

Yes, that's what I based my earlier post on, but Doc_N understands that EDF are doing this...

I can only go by the letter they sent me. Perhaps Doc_N is correct and the letter is not. Time will tell!

If I were involved as administrator of UP I would assume it was my responsibility to ensure final billing is correct and any sums due were properly accounted for. I don't think I would be getting another energy company to do this.

I've seen many posts by Doc_N all of which seem to lay every delay and problem at EDF's door. He either has inside knowledge, which I readily admit I don't, or perhaps has something of an axe to grind.

As you say, time will tell, but I still think UP's administrator will be the one responsible for ensuring the UP loose ends (including the final bills and closing meter readings) are tied up. And until this is done, EDF can only take the process so far.

He definitely has an axe to grind, says on another thread he’s taking EDF to the ombudsman. Not sure why. He’s never updated since so don’t know whether they haven’t got back to him yet or told him he doesn’t have a case
  • So my gas is shortly due to go live with EDF, but for some reason my electricity's live date has been staggered.

Now I currently have an active direct debit with Utility Point, which EDF have advised me to leave in place until I receive a final bill from Utility Point.  However, when I last with Utility Point, they told me it can take up to SIX months to receive a final bill.

So does this mean I will have two direct debits? One with Utility Point and the other with EDF? I plan to speak with Utility Point soon and ask them if I should cancel my direct debit with them now I have an active one with EDF.

Are you able to easily check what Direct Debits are actually active on your bank account via your bank?
My Utility Point direct debit disappeared about a week before my EDF direct debit appeared, looking via online banking.

My gas and electricity seemed to move at different speeds, and my direct debits were notified separately. (FWIW they now both show a "switch date" of 17 November, though the status of both gas and electricity are still showing as incomplete.)

I'm having one taken of £26 on 3 December for gas, another for £19 on 7 December for electricity then a further one on 20 December for £45 covering both. Then £45 monthly.

The direct debit listing on my bank's website no longer shows an active UP direct debit; just a replacement one for EDF.

I've no idea where they have the direct debit amounts from as I was paying roughly £39 summer and £78 winter for my UP tariff and I estimate my average monthly cost with EDF will be £91pm.

Still, I'd sooner owe them money than vice versa, and I've no doubt they'll bump up the payments pretty quickly once they have usage data from UP.
