Well done ffm:D I need to get moving all this sitting and eating is making me long to go back to work:rotfl: :rotfl:

I was determined none of the xmas stuff went into the cupboards in the kitchen (recipe for disaster for me!!) so I made up a xmas box so the kids and H could help themselves whenever and knew where it was and I was not surrounded by goodies having to look at it all the time, I am now trying to force feed them to get rid of it as there is so much of it:rotfl: :rotfl: they had a fab xmas with so many sweets etc but I just ate too much not necessarily the wrong stuff but the lacking in energy stuff for sure:D

I am def going to get weighed as usual , I am hoping for some unknown reason a 3lb gain as it seems in my mind manageable to loose and not so bad so let's hope for that and the eating would have been worthwhile (yes I know I am strange but I know what I mean!):D

Went to see my mum yesterday and had a lovely day, yes you read that right;) she said I looked lovely, oh no sorry that was not me it was my new top from Wallis she was refeering to:rotfl: :rotfl: hey dreaming is o.k:rolleyes:

I went to the sales at Next, M&S, Debenhams and got some fab bargains, t-shirts for £2 from M&S, Debenhams my throw I was after was half price, Next got loads of clothes for less than half price and they all fit a treat:D my wardrobe is fit to burst now and all for little money, even better soon it will be March and back to the car boot sales for even more bargains.

I wanted to get from ebay a full skirt in pink with a poodle on the bottom to wear when I go and see Grease on stage but H says he does not want to go with me dressed in character on the tube across London:rotfl: :rotfl:

Went to London today for more blood tests and I was the only one there, it was like I had walked into a ghost town, I have taken a number once when they were on 4 or 5 and I was number 77!! this time and this time only just me:D brilliant, two blood tests done out again:D

We are off tomorrow to finally buy a frost free freezer:j have to wait a bit though as it is jammed packed with stuff, why oh why did I buy so much:rotfl: next year I am going back to saving the supermarket stamps and leaving it to the last minute to buy it all as not only is it half price but it does not sit in the house waiting to be eaten, I thought I had bought little but then the kids did get a whole heap of sweets bought for them and H was given thortons chocs, toffee, cheeses etc from his work and mince pies, sherry, etc so it all mounted up in the end and there was masses of it everywhere until out came the xmas box idea.

I have learnt you must keep busy, sitting and eating is just habit, it being in the house makes me nervy, I know it is there so I think about it and eat it for the sake of it, not hunger, not needing it just because... better not buy it:D I am re-training the fridge to only accept the good stuff:rotfl:

    Hi all,

Well we got home late last night from OH's parents and have had a fab xmas!

OH's mum got me the cook yourself thin cookbook lol and made me upa beautiful fruit basket and gave me nuts seeds and fruit instead of chocolate which I thought was brilliant and so thoughtful plus I can always pick at his large tin of Heroes if I fancy a choccie lmao!

Well I stood on the scales at home and they show a loss but I won't go with it until my official weigh in when class starts back next week. I would be happy for a maintain as that is what I had planned for as a damage limitation exercise so If there is any loss Iwill be ecstatic!

Welcome to our newest members and congrats to everyone managing to fight the Xmas temptations

Afternoon all! How are you all doing?

Did someone mention exercise? Hehe. You might find this link useful:

    Calculate calories burned by exercise

It only has some very general stuff on there, but you can probably use it to decide whether those 'theoretical calorie counts' on your steppers etc are accurate! I think my gym equipment is overly generous and I've started to halve whatever it tells me, I'd rather underestimate than overestimate.

Funkyfunkymonkey, I hope you realise I'm going to have to try weighing before and after a bath now to see what happens! What if you have a really hot bath, you could get a steam/sauna effect and shed some water, and what if you exfoliate really vigorously and lose a layer of skin, that could get a bit of weight off :rotfl:

Inkie, well done on getting the free elip. trainer! They are excellent for calorie burning so you'll have that 3lb back off in no time, especially with your other exercise too.

Vixarooni, if you are shocked about getting older then there is no hope for me and some of the others on here, hahaha ;) I always say it's not how old you are but what you've managed to pack into those years!

Ephemera, welcome! I was browsing the £4,000 challenge yesterday. Will you keep us posted how you get on with that? It's this sort of thing that got me out of (smallish) debt, and onto saving. I'd love to do some sort of money challenge for 2008 to help increase my savings, which I will think about after I've examined my 2007 spending. Oh yes, and good luck with the slimming too! :D

KatiePC, have you got that dance thingy working now? Are you off somewhere nice for new year? Hope you have a fab time!

Lostsoul25, I recently discovered sugar free jelly at only 8 cals a portion, nice little treat! I sometimes replace a meal with a bowl of cereal - special K or bran flakes are good with a small amount of skimmed or semi-skimmed milk. I find that quite filling. Otherwise perhaps just have your normal meals but 10% smaller portions to start with?

    Back in a mo!
  • Hi Peeps :hello:

Welcome Ephemera - We used to have a SW consultant here who's help was invaluable to everyone, so we look forward to hearing more from you :j and good luck with your weight loss and the living on £4000 challenge, sounds like something that would be good for me (I'm a waster :o )...

...Welcome also to lostsoul25 A lot of people here follow Slimming World plan as it seems to allow quite large portion so it's ideal for those who have a tendency to being hungry, it is very successful to for the majority of them. For snacks and nibbles I tend to stick to fruit, raw veg such as carrots and peppers, Pink'n'Whites, sugar free jelly etc. To me the important thing is to try and get as much taste for the minimum of calories, so try and make liberal use of herbs and spices. Whatever plan you choose, make sure that it suits your lifestyle and includes your favourite foods, because if you deprive yourself of all of them, you will soon be craving them, and then perhaps ruining your diet. I wish you success :D ...

...julesgr Haven't you done well :T and what a lovely gesture from your OH's mother - obviously not a Dementer :D ...

...Thanks for all the helpful comments concerning the worries that I have about weighing in on Monday:A ...

...I'm now cooking another gammon and roasting a joint of beef for the family, and to be honest I'm sick of the sight of food, I wish things could just get back to normal. So I've decided to do it all for them, and just stick to what I want rather than feel that I'm duty bound to join in with them. I too had crudites last night and I never thought that I would ever be grateful to eating such things as a matter of course, I really enjoyed them and felt so much better...

...Just before Christmas I bought a pack of fresh cranberries to try out the recipe that Jamie Oliver was advertising in all the papers whereby you simmer them in a little water and sugar (I substituted low calorie granulated sweetener) until they're of a jammy consistency and serve over ice cream. I've never tasted them before (never liked the look of them) and it was absolutely gorgeous; ice cream has been my constant treat throught this year. So this morning I bought 2 more packs of the things as they were reduced ;) ready for quite a few low calorie treats for myself :j...

    xxxx
I wish that I could be the oldest AND wisest....sadly it's not the latter :p but my time will come _party_ wooooh hoooh! Beware!!!!!!!

Victory, I loved your post! So full of happiness and positivity! :D I was smiling reading it. Well done for hitting the sales, that must have been a workout in itself, all that elbowing for the bargains! You obviously did GREAT! (Are your photos due back soon by the way?)

Julesgr, how considerate of your OH's mum! I'm glad there is at least someone who's stopped to think before buying a dieter the usual round of chocolates, biscuits, sweets etc. I looked for you on facebook before Christmas by the way but I think there were a few with your name so I will PM you! It sounds like you have things quite under control, I think a maintain is as good as a loss this week - anything else as you say, is a bonus!

As for me, I've been very lazy this week compared to usual but I have enjoyed it! Bit worried about the weight so I had little to eat yesterday and I'm doing a full-on detox today, then tomorrow I start with my maintain plan ready for Monday's weigh in. Going for a nice brisk walk shortly, get some air in my lungs before I watch all my winter sports boyfriends on telly later ;)

HI EVERYONE!!! (can you tell I'm excited to get on here?:D)
Welcome to the newbies, everyone on here is lovely and we can all help each other to our goals.
I'm fairly whacked at the mo so struggling to remember things but congrats to whoever got the elliptical trainer, as it's a great machine and free too, bonus!
Hope those of you who are poorly/have poorly family are on the mend?
Brighton is lovely and sunny today, well the weather at least! :D Just to cheer you all up, a little anecdote: noone could pick us up from the station yesterday  so we got a taxi, which arrived at the house about 30 seconds before the Dementor turned up (what a coincidence). We were let in by Granny, who hadn't seen T.D. pull up in her car and closed the door behind me to keep out the cold. T.D. was let in as soon as I could get Granny to understand that she was back, a v cold non-hug ensued, followed by some banshee screaming from the kitchen e.g.'SHE SLAMMED THE DOOR RIGHT IN MY FACE!'. It took about an hour to convince T.D. that a) she was still getting out of the car when the door closed and b) it wasn't me that closed the door. I spent the time lying in OH's room trying to work out where I could walk to to use the internet so I could contact BB and be rescued... Finally, after a long walk and much hysterical crying, T.D. did apologise to me about 3 times; turns out there was a big family row with someone else the day before and I got the brunt of it (of course). Ho hum. Things are better today, and I leave tomorrow, yae! Peace and quiet, just me and the cats, can't wait!!
No scales here so will check in on Monday morning, see how things are (still going to keep my WI day on a Wednesday though, works well for me). I've managed to book a massage for 12 on the 31st so I'm really looking forward to that, especially as I have Wii-related pulled muscles (I love the boxing and K.O'd my OH and my bro on Boxing Day - frustrated, moi? :D).
Hope you're all feeling a little more energised and getting back into the swing of things. Victory and Petrichor, please don't worry, you both know very well how to shift a tiny bit of weight that may or may not be there; that's exactly what maintaining is about. Pet, I can't see those bits on your pelvis from here so they must be imaginary ;)
Anyone made their New Year's resolutions yet, and if so, fancy sharing them? I'll put mine up on the 31st when they're finalised.
Oh yeah, I hope I'm not the bearer of bad news with this, but generally speaking, calorie counters on machines (even the ones in the gym) are only a (very) vague indicator. It very much depends on a whole bunch of factors, including your current weight and body make-up. I'm afraid it's not realistic to think 'the machine says I've burnt 290 cals so I've burnt off that chocolate bar' (sorry). However, if you can get away from that and focus more on trying to improve the no. of steps/ distance/ time etc, you are still doing a wonderful thing for your body and can get a real sense of achievement as well as weight loss. Or indeed, if the thought of burning the 'equivalent' of a piece of food inspires you, then go for it, I'm just saying it's not an exact science that you can match to your calorie intake.
Sorry for the long post, I've missed being able to get on here! I'm intrigued by the 4k challenge, does that include rent and everything? I'm assuming not thinking about that - will have to go and check it out... laters peeps xx

  • Hi Bails

Thanks for the info in your post, it is a good way to view the calorie counter as 'just a measure'. I shall do just that, I'll post the steps vs calories later once I've done my daily stint - just for fun.

I probably shouldn't, but your post about your TD had me in fits, how can anyone be so 'bad'. Stay strong and think of all your buddies on here. My MIL is more like julesgr's thankfully - how lovely of her to put so much thought into julesgr present - it really is the thought that counts.

But maybe if you have a really hot bath your pores open up more and you soak up more water :rotfl:

I saw a comedy sketch once about someone weighing themselves, it was a while ago and I can't remember all of the details. The lady started off with her clothes on but didn't like the weight on the scales, so first off came the shoes, then the coat etc, the final attempt to reduce the weight was to cut her nails - I thought it was so funny at the time because I've done things like that (not the nail clipping) to try and make the number that little bit smaller. I'll even move my bathroom scales around to see if I weigh a bit less where the carpet is a bit thinner/thicker - see, I'm just your regular nutter

I got some new Tanita scales for my birthday and they measure quite accurately, so no need to wait whilst the scales flicker between .8 and .7 with my fingers crossed hoping that the reading will settle on the .7.

Feel free to laugh away FFM, that's what keeps me sane (well, except for the odd twitch :D). It was lovely to read about Julesgr's thoughtful MiL, glad to hear you have a similar one.
Just been looking at 4k challenge, it looks insanely hard! If I was on my own, I think I'd give it a go but don't think I can with OH (MS is coming v slowly to him, bad upbringing :D). His parents just built a conservatory at 1k a door...... MS is an alien concept to them, literally throw it down the drain!
