The thing is delly is everyone has this picture perfect way of how it should be over the xmas period, logs on the fire, everyone smiling and happy, endless gifts and good will to all men and however much you prepare and think of things that could go wrong to try and prevent them they do, it is not picture perfect and rows happen, lots of them, I have devised a 'I am off shopping' as H hates shopping to get out of the house and for all of us not to be in this house for 2 weeks, it won't work and doesn't work, I hate the coup upness, the kids all day every day demanding, it is also a nightmare for food being in the house all the time, mountains of it, just sitting there staring at you, whether you ate in anger or not there are many other reasons to eat, boredom, mine, loneliness, why can everyone else eat and not me?

I mean my kids have put masses of sweets in their tummies and not an inch of weight gained, ahh:rolleyes:

I am sorry to hear of the time you are having, I hope it gets better for you, at times like these I always right the negative and positive list and see where you can draw strength from:D

  • Vixarooni - unfortunately I live in Belfast so swimming might be a bit difficult to co-ordinate:D

I live in Kent but I don't 'do' swimming - swimming for me consists of alot of splashing and movement of arms and legs but not alot of forward motion. Hilarious for the kids, great for burning calories but cannot really be classed as 'swimming'.

  • Does that sound ok - I don't want anyone to walk in and think - OMG guess who's on a diet - but I don't want to be too tempted either.

That sounds just great, if I lived closer I'd be inviting myself round to help with the cooking and eating - mostly the eating.

    Hello you lovely lot!

Hello Bails, grr this woman makes me angry and I don't even know her! Has she always been the same way? Have a safe trip back today, ooh what sort of a massage have you booked? For my resolutions I want to do some kind of money saving challenge, maintain my weight (obviously), and improve one or more of my foreign languages. Look forward to hearing yours and anyone else's who cares to share!

As I understand it the 4K challenge doesn't include rent/mortgage, council tax and water bills but it includes everything else? I did some very basic sums and it doesn't add up for me. We already live quite frugally (I am obsessive about growing my savings) so I know 4K is quite a challenge and good luck to anyone here who's going for it.

FFM, you know what I think I've seen that comedy sketch or a similar one! I must be a 'nutter' too because every time I get a ¾lb loss, I'll move the scales a bit to see if I can get it up to the full lb :o haha! Except every time, without fail, it goes in the wrong direction and I end up keeping the original reading! Yet I still try it

Hi jillie1974 thanks for checking in with us. When is your next weigh in day?

Ephemera, thank you for your offer of help to everyone, that's really kind of you. My reasons for doing this are completely for myself, earlier this year I simply noticed I'd been letting myself go, getting into bad eating habits, gaining weight and being lazy. Wanting to lose the weight was only part of it, I also wanted a much fitter, healthier lifestyle. I would love to hear why you and others are doing this, I bet there are some quite inspirational stories around.

Starlight, thanks for your update! Well done on getting through a slightly challenging week for you! GREAT about the smaller sizes not being too small! :D

Bargainbasement welcome! Good luck with your weight loss, I'm a go it alone person but there are lots of SW's here as you've already heard.

Vix, what a great story! Well done, she does look fab! If you weren't the other side of London I would definitely come to you for my next fitting :D which I am going to have to do just as soon as the shops get back to normal, cos I know they have shrunk :( Bye bye 32F *sob* I have Myspace but I don't check it as much as Facebook, would love to add you though!

Victory, yours is a fab resolution! I'm sure we can all relate to it, considering whose forum we are all on! If you feel the need to have a money rant/discussion you can always talk to us about it instead of your family! :D

Oh before I forget, the latest issue of Zest magazine has an offer for a 2-day pass for 2 to any Cannons health club, and a 3 day pass for LA Fitness clubs in case anyone is interested.

Delly I'm so sorry about your bad couple of days, I hope things get better starting from today. Hugs to you and anyone else who needs them.

Thriftmonster, haha you and Vix couldn't live much further from each other! Weekly swimming out of the question then? :p As for your meal with friends, go for it! I doubt they will even notice it's WW unless you normally do a gigantic fry up ;) If some of your friends have over-indulged earlier in the week they will probably be more than grateful for something lighter.

Sorry if I've missed anyone with this rather long catch up! If I'm not back on later then I will post again tomorrow with my weigh in info... dun dun DUN!

Wishing you all a lovely Sunday afternoon :D
  • Thanks Missyg and FFM - no, I'm sure they wouldn't notice - but I cook all the time - dh's job involves quite a bit of entertaining people and I have a small business making and selling chutneys etc, plus I cook everything from scratch (normally I'm on the OS board), so I don't want to disappoint anyone. However you're right, I'm sure about people being happy if there are lighter options - I know I always am.

However this year I have to get over the OS cooking style and just focus on losing this weight. I was always slim before the kids and I adore clothes and I just hate the way I look in anything at the moment. My resolution is just to go to meetings every week - normally I do a couple of weeks and then start agonising about the cost (although we can afford it now - but I'm still in the mindset from when we probably couldn't) - and I'm really bad at focusing on what I need rather than everyone else.

I'm also going to be 40 at the end of January - I spent my 30s overweight and there is no way I want to do the same for my 40s.

Sorry to waffle on a bit but it focuses my mind to actually get it down in black and white - so meetings every week for me then.

    Hi again all,

Thanks for your support and kind words missyg, I'm here because of similar reasons - I want to get in good financial and physical shape. I don't owe any money (sold house last year and living with parents for now), but I am saving like billy-o for a good deposit or to put a house on land I own in Devon - all depends on planning permission!

I want to be as self sufficient as possible, and this site has some great tips for eco friendly and purse friendly living, combining this with growing my own food I will be able to live comfortably without relying on being fully employed by someone else! That will be a good target for 2010.... By then I should have a stable place to live and can start getting hypnotherapy and NLP clients on my books again. I currently work as a technician for a water company and it will be good to work for myself again, doing something that I dearly love - helping change other people's lives for the better!

Onto losing weight, I am carrying about four stones too many, and although it means I get a good workout every day carrying around the equivalent of a small child :rotfl: it's no good for my knees and back. On the plus side under the flab bits of me are well toned!!!
I'm a member of the local gym and although it's an extravagance I'd rather not be paying for I got myself into a 2 year contract before finding the MSE website. Ho hum, you live and learn... so I may as well make use of it as I'm paying for it!

If anyone has any questions I am open to PMs!

    All the best,

    Eph.

    Hi Guys,

Funkeyfunkeymonkey, i did 164 steps for 144 calories. Now there is either something wrong or i have the resistance quite high? But to be honest it still seems a little genorous, i never look at calories for that reason! I do like my stepper, i normally put on the music and try and step to the beat ect ect, i think if i used it every day i might see a difference! Thanks for that link, that is the lady! got about 5 pages of her story in there, but no need to focus on that, its all about whats underneath! :rotfl: Nice to see a fellow kentish person! Im ashford way without being specific, just incase you know me and have had a bad bra fit or something haha :p

thriftmonster, i kinda feel the same way. Spent my teens fat and dont want the same for my twentys. I wanna walk out in a bikini and feel great, whilst i still have age on my side! Shame you live in Dublin huh! Just a slight bit of distance there :p

Hey Eph, nice plan you got there! Do you ever get the feeling you wanna do so much in such a short space of time? Uni is finishing for me in a years time, i gotta find a career i like somewhere, my boyfriend and i live together at my parents which is quite cramped and i feel pressures (from myself) to get saving and move out, but at the same time im 21 and i wanna go on holidays, do stuff before i settle down and get my teeth done. I feel im up against a loosing battle sometimes! trying to do too much all at once and still having time for mse and facebook! Good luck with your pursuits, sounds a very exciting time for you.

My myspace address is: http://www.myspace.com/vixarooni I keep myspace for general people and facebook people i know in real life. Just got a new myspace so there isnt alot on it! But add away everyone with myspace!

    Hiya!
I'm back home now, hurrah! so I can get on here as much as I would like again :D I've been having a look around for some new challenges - I seriously considered the 4k challenge but have decided that my illness puts enough restrictions on my life and I need to maintain some quality of life right now. Perhaps one for the future though...At the mo, I'm thinking of trying to save/make 5 grand this year, using Ebay, PMS, Grocery Challenge, Shrapnel Jar, cashback etc so if anyone has any great ideas do let me know! What other threads are people regulars on? I've just discovered a thread about simplifying life, which is great so I've added that to my New Year's resolutions. I'll post them up tomorrow.
I'm hoping to make my relaxation class tomorrow then get a food shop in before my hot stone massage - yum! I'm so looking forward to this year, got a really positive head on about everything I want to achieve.:j
Will weigh and measure tomorrow and reset my target from there. Still quite quiet on here at mo, hope the others come back soon. Take care all, I'm off to trawl the site for inspiration; I love it here!:D xx
Oh, ps, Vix, sad to say your stepper does sound v over-generous!

    Hey Bails,

Looks like "snap" is in order. Ive been trawlling through the site this evening. Im making a folder called 2008. Its got ways to save money online, what we need to get sorted out and where we need to look money wise, its got loyalty schemes we need to join, my area has a residents card where you can get into musuems free and eating out cheaper and i never use it! Im also going to put in it our monthly budget, a section dedicated to christmas (i wasted a few quid on wrapping paper, we got the whole of the amazon rain forest in our loft) birthdays and everything. Hopefully it will become a good resource thoroughout the year. Perhaps i sound a bit like a wierdo :p I know my boyfriend wont bother, he goes and buys dvds even though my student discount will get 10% off them.

weightloss wise I did 1000 steps tonight, couldnt be arsed to do anymore. Calorie loss has never been an incentive to me (and thank god really!) i remember going to the gym years ago, and working off some measly amount of calories for alot of work and then realising i hadnt even burned off a sandwhich worth. I know i shouldnt think like that but i do. So now i just ignore it!

The hot stone thing sounds good bails! I remember taking my mum to a spa foor her 60th, it was amazing! I loved it. Wanna make it a yearly thing with my mum. I love the positivity a new year brings, a chance to wipe the slate. If only i didnt have exams when i get back i think id be feeling more positive too!

see you all on new years eve! how exciting :D
