Green Supplier Ltd switch to Shell Energy

The casual attitude to energy price rises shocks me. This will have a crippling effect on so many households and send people into fuel poverty this winter, especially struggling lower middle class that are already paying higher taxes, higher bills, higher shopping costs, not getting much increase in pay, etc. I sadly know a couple families already that are now going to extremes to save money and pretty much scared to turn on their heating. You can just tell when good people can no longer do simple things like go to the pub, constantly seem to be using coupons, sell their car, etc. Doing stuff to keep proudly living but you see the internal suffering. A country like the UK should not be subjecting its citizens to 80% energy price rises as we head into winter. It illustrates disgraceful lack of energy planning and how broken this country is.
Wish you all luck and that you find a way through these constantly testing and morale breaking times.1 -
Shell have taken another month's direct debit, £93 - when I'm already over £200 in credit!! Surely that's not right?1

a direct debit appeared on my bank account yesterday in the name of Green. I was expecting Shell in line with there email.0 -
Sorry, I should have said taken by Green, according to my bank's online direct debit record. I'm thoroughly confused by it all. All the money I was paying by DD got me in credit for the winter bills, they went bust, and then took more money? Surely they shouldn't be able to do that, if as people are saying it takes a good few months to get it back?
As an OAP I just won't be able to pay large direct debits, starting from zero.1 -

Any credit left after your final Green statement is settled will go into your Shell account, so you'll be in credit there. It just won't happen overnight.

Noticed that there is a list of contact details for the Administrators of specific defunct companies on the Ofgem web site, including one for Green.
I'm not sure how thrilled they will be to hear from people direct, but worth bearing in mind if you are not having any success using other channels.2 -
As I said either in this thread or another, it is all very well Ofgem and the Government, sat in their ivory towers, blithely stating that this will all be sorted out EVENTUALLY. In the interim, some of us have cash flow considerations and other bills to pay. Ideally, we would also like to eat. Should I just refer any creditors to Ofgem, for it to reassure them that I have some money to come back at some point.3

Fair comment, that's exactly what I'm worried about *sigh*
Perhaps with hindsight, despite all the advice, I should have cancelled the direct debit. At least then I would still have ninety odd pounds towards the first bill.... as it is I'll probably get a bill before I get the credit back!!1 -

At least then I would still have ninety odd pounds towards the first bill.... as it is I'll probably get a bill before I get the credit back!!Assuming you are both still with Shell, this isn't like a conventional supplier switch. There isn't any credit to "get back".- If you had switched from Green to Shell, you'd be paying Shell now and expecting to get your credit balance refunded from Green, within 6 weeks of switching.
- With an SoLR switch, your credit balance is given to Shell, not you. Any refund will be paid by Shell. It will appear as a positive opening balance on your first Shell bill.
This shouldn't change your cash flow or affect your creditors, unless you happened to have a huge balance with Green and were depending on having it refunded in order to pay the milkman (or whoever).Unless you really need the energy money in your bank account today, I'd suggest you keep paying the DDs so that there is less bill shock when Shell finally get everything straight in 2-3 months time.Of course if it's a decision between eating today or paying the DD, you might well choose to eat and worry about the future bills when they arrive.N.
