Shell energy emailed me to confirm that they will be taking over my electricity supply but it’s now nearly mid October and my account is still not set up but the email I received from Shell says I will start paying the crazy high rates from 1st October. Doesn’t seem very fair that I can’t switch out whilst they take their sweet time to take over my account
I doubt there's anywhere to switch to that's cheaper than Shell's "crazy high rates".

Please let us know if indeed there are these cheaper rates you can switch to .
It always takes time on the transfer and much better than no supply no contract and need to get credit back via the administrators .

    Green economy 10 > shell economy 10 (?)

ive tried twice to speak via phone, with no real answers.

now I’ve emailed them, awaiting a response. Does anyone on green economy 10 know what is happening? The new tariff details that they’ve sent are afaik, economy 7.

If they’re not honouring e10 tariffs, then do we need to have our meters changed? Or do we stay on economy 10 but get the same rates as economy 7? That seems odd, but maybe it’s what will happen.

Has anyone else in this situation made any sense of it?

Yes there is. Simple search on a price comparison site in my region threw up a 12 month fixed rate tariff that is 20% cheaper on unit rate AND daily standing charge. Shell’s flexible 6 tariff has resulted in an 80% increase in my electricity rates. This is deeply unfair
  • You'll be lucky if any company will honour a switch right now tbh, even if Shell had been quicker with the move.
Some people have tried and find they aren't honouring deals showing on comparison web sites.
But good luck when you get to try - I've been switched to Shell as well *sigh*

Looking on the bright side; you'll get a Shell discount card which you won't get from BG, SP, EDF... but the cap price is the same.

Well, I'm not sure I'd use the word "unfair", but this is a consequence of the Government's failure to invest in renewable energy (e.g. Severn tidal power) or gas storage, leaving us at the mercy of volatile energy markets. However, there is no simple short-term fix now we're in this situation (and no likely long-term fix without a change of Government).
The Chinese overlords have instructed their underlings to secure gas supplies at any cost. Likewise there's high demand across Asia. Not as simple as looking for someone to blame. Which seems to be the bog standard reponse to every news story these days. People can invest in renewable energy for themselves. Nothing to stop them as plenty of options available.
