Green Supplier Ltd switch to Shell Energy

  • It seems like the wheels are coming off a bit at Shell. In one sense, not surprising due to the volume of transferees, but on the other hand it is up to the company to manage and resource the process appropriately.

A CS agent has admitted to me that a lot of emails like the one received by myself and others yesterday (refer above) have been sent out in error to ex Green customers. No apology or reassurance though, just a comment that management was aware.

They should only be able to move an active DD, so if you have already cancelled it then it you should be safe.
Wise to check your bank periodically though just in case...
I am with Nat west and with them you’d need to check every day as dd won’t show up until the day. You have most of the day to cancel though (I think it’s 8pm but not certain).

Even with NatWest you should be able to see a list of all active Direct Debit agreements on your account?

  • I've just got my first bill from Shell.  The last DD I made to Green hasn't shown up as I feared, although the bulk of the credit I had with Green has been thankfully.

Ofgen said not to cancel your DD so I didn't - but they were wrong.

I manually cancelled my DD with Green just after the last payment was made - so anyone who hasn't, so it now, or you will lose it.

Shell told me to raise a new one which was confirmed but they didn’t draw on. Then they told me they were transferring the existing one from Green, which I had cancelled as Shell already they told me to raise a new one. Now they say because I have not set up a DD I am on a more expensive tariff 😤

    For existing DDs yes.
for new ones IME (been with NW 35 years) they don’t show up until the first day they are taken. You don’t get sight of it in advance,
therefore if you want to cancel you’d need to check every day.

you can cancel on the day and I believe it’s up to 8pm

lisyloo - I'm not with NW but with my bank if I go into the list of DDs/SOs on my account it will show a new DD payee but without a payment value until the first payment is taken.
  • Now received my first Shell invoice and I must say it is clearer than most energy invoices I've received before.   All checked and all agreed, meter readings and credit b/fwd. from Green.

So about 3 months since first notification about Green's demise.   It's taken about the same amount of time as when a previous supplier went bust and I went through the process before.

Ok sure, but mine doesn’t and I believe the person said they were with NatWest, hence the warning that they might not be able to cancel in advance.
It’s perfectly possible that different banks work differently.

I'm sure the different banks offer different options.   Some do offer pending transactions too so you can see if a DD is about to hit your account within the next day or two.    It's a pain having to remember to check your account every day though.
