Which suppliers went bust and who told you this?

Thanks but those numbers are also meaningless
If anyone has the two simplifed Fixed and variable rates of Shell Energy  I would be grateful
Shell haven't published their tariffs for ex-Green customers yet. No-one can tell you what they are but they shouldn't be any higher than the numbers in the table.
Two went in quick succession, first sold me off days before SOLR, on paper my balance was supposed to go to them

Then the company I was transferred to (who did not have my credit from administrators yet) went bust and I was transferred to EDF who told me no credit was transferred and I should speak to the two administrators.

Neither would cough up, everyone blaming each other.

I left EDF and was happy with Green

OFGEM would have been better taking it over I heard the MD on radio twice. he said some of companies going bust were 97% hedged and if they were not going to help companies like his then likely 50+ companies will go to the wall and soon..

The big companies will gain even bigger buying power, kill off the competition, creating yet another dysfunctional market.

Thanks for that link. Assuming I'm placed on the Flexible Oct 21 tariff, here's a comparison of what I am currently on with Green with the new Shell tariff:

    Elec:
    Green 15.78 p/kwh Standing Ch/ day 22.0
    Shell   22.31                                        29.47

    Gas:
    Green 3.28 p/kwh Standing Ch/ day   22.0
    Shell   4.396                                        30.78
Those prices look to be higher than the Ofgem cap. Your SoLR tariff should be lower than that. You won't know the rates until Shell announces them.

You should never lose your credit if you are a residential customer. It may take months to sort it all out, but ultimately the credit is protected. All the suppliers pay into a scheme that ensures there is a fund to refund any balance, even if the supplier goes under and has no money left themselves.

I can only suggest keeping careful records with all your readings and bills. It will be up to whatever supplier you finally end up with to ensure you get any credit back.

Ofgem is a non-Ministerial Government Department. It is unlikely to do anything without the BEIS Secretary’s approval and he has said that suppliers should be allowed to fail. The Government might well change its mind if a supplier the size of Bulb goes to the wall: it very much depends on whether there are any other suppliers willing to take so many customers. If not, Octopus will be forced to appoint a Special Administrator.

So far Shell seems to be quoting within 10p of others in monthly cost, these are rates so assuming this must be the cap

E.ON Next Bulb Ovo SSE OVO
    Elec Unit rate 20.871 20.860 20.871 20.863
    Elec Standing charge 24.017 24.007 24.014 24.014
    Gas Unit rate 4.055 4.055 4.053 4.053
    Gas Standing charge 26.123 26.113 26.113 26.113

I posted a table with the cap values on the first page of this thread but you claimed the numbers were meaningless ... and you still haven't told us the names of the suppliers you SoLR'd away from and which cost you hundreds of pounds?

Bulb is apparently partly backed by Russian Oligarch Yuri Milner and as Russia has been partially responsible for this crisis, other backer  Magnetar Capital "facilitated the creation of a few of the worst-performing collateralised debt obligations", many named after stars or constellations.[5] While the CDOs Magnetar Capital helped create led to losses on Wall Street, the company profited as a result of its hedged investment strategy.

So they can afford their loss more than me

This crisis started with a small supply issue, then the speculators jumped in and the Russians reduced supply of their gas to increase prices. Fook all of them.

Gov can't risk a black Wednesday, so has to do things that make the market regulate itself, greater supply reduces price.

OFGEM is one of these top heavy bloated organisations, we need serious reform of the OFing lot and the CMA too.

They were/are meaningless one can't copy paste an image, I have no idea what the abbreviations mean, the usage is meaningless too, but thanks for trying.

Cos the MD wouldn’t simply admit that they messed up? They wanted bailing out by the government, but the end of the day they simply weren’t prudent enough.

We can see you aren’t happy with the cost going up, but that’s not shell’s fault that green were pricing too cheaply, nor is it the government’s fault either.  Afraid you are going to have to suck it up

Yes I learnt from that experience, I did keep meticulous records but the administrators are brick walls, I chased it for around a year.

One thing I have learnt is that some Energy Companies do not seem to understand accounting and auditing rules, they delete bills / invoices (which they call statements to avoid legislation) I had paper billing, online billing, PDF's these companies cut access to their systems when they do this. One of the companies I was with had irregular filing at companies house, harder to figure out than a mafia organisation.  What was clear from filings was that it was all deliberate, but of course nobody charged, nobody arrested.

With Green I have video, screenshots and PDF's, we shall see what happens.  They seemed like an honest bunch, Geordies are salt of the earth in my experience, their main issue was their IT people and really poorly designed software. I had 37 bills in 18 months and 5 disappeared into the ether, but at least they corrected it and started over.  They had a UK call centre and if you called at right time the wait was not terrible.

What I really hate about this market is Standing Charges, it is not enough that we have been mugged £13bn on smart meters that only really benefit the energy companies but they hike these prices so consumer cannot cut back their energy costs because they get taxed every day.

I think the standing charge should be abolished, it is just free money for the energy companies, this whole gambling racket needs to be done away with, Gas storage should be massively increased and we should do all we can (including funding) to increase oil production.
