Hi guys
I’ve not been on for a while but it really is time to take control.
Fun - I really need to get out more so if my friend isn’t working tomorrow I will see if she fancies a coffee out and a mooch round the shops ( only for Xmas pressie ideas) We usually walk in and then out of town so this could also be my excercise outside.
Today was a spendy day cos my online shop arrived. I’ve spent the last few years making myself miserable dieting and then during lockdown I just put it all back on so I’ve made a decision that food should not control my life. I’ve been eating what I want and when I’m hungry, not putting weight on and I’ve even lost a couple of pounds so this is going to be my overhaul, cooking healthy food and enjoying it. Today I’ve made bubble and squeak for tea, simple, just mash and leftover cabbage. Enough for tomorrow’s lunch too.
As for slowing down and simply being. I finally told my old boss I wasn’t going to do any more overtime. I know we’re short staffed but that’s not my fault and I’ve just hit 60 and I’m physically struggling with all the hours they were adding on.Following in from that, I’ve a new boss as the old one left the week before last, plus both assistant managers have also moved on. I feel for the new one so will go out of my way to help (apart from extra hours)
I’ve started on Xmas, adding a couple of bits to my shop each week so that I don’t end up with a bill afterwards ( making sure that I buy the sweet stuff last otherwise I might be tempted )
I’m sat here with the windows open, enjoying the fresh air while I can. But I’ve got my wooly blankets out ready and bought some candles in case the power goes.
Anyway enough of my waffle

NSD 4 - probably last for a long time
Good day today, cleared out the fridge, and found a load of bits that screamed PIZZA needing to be used up, and then found a wholemeal seeded bread mix in the pantry - it made a marvellous pizza - I was unconvinced but I had my experimental cook's head on, so just went for it. Also had some very brown bananas, so made battered banana balls, toasted some walnuts, and served with vanilla ice cream with a caramel topping (left over from the millionaires shortbread last month). Nobody complained. Not one single voice of dissent.
My fridge looks much tidier now. Big stir-fry for tomorrow, to clear out a lot of the rest, and I have menu planned for the weekend and beyond. Fruit Salad and a veg stew should get rid of most of the rest of the stuff needing using. Bizarrely I have 3 types of broccoli. I am going to have to either learn how to preserve more of these gorgeous things, or say 'no' when the friendly local allotmenteers are palming off their surplus. But it is so nice, and zero food miles, and it will soon be over and I will no doubt miss it.Ziff-ited some books, and found some dvds that can go next week, should be nearly £20 worth. So glad you can use your phone to scan them now, putting the barcodes in by hand was a total faff. DH will no doubt rob some back.Put 3 bags of too small clothes into a charity clothes container, and a bag of books in the community book shed. Now I have half a car boot free!So it has actually been quite a productive day. Quite a lot of things have left the house, and although it is a relatively small amount of money, the actual physical amount is probably the size of a washing machine. I will continue. In Roofer-Watch .... still no roofer.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

mothernerd - that's a good update to hear from you
Been spendy today. Finally made it to the launderette to wash DD2's mattress topper which is too big for my machine. Went to the no food waste hub as it was nearby; only got a few things but at least i saved food from the bin. I made a donation to the food bank while there so didn't actually save any money - probably cost me!
Rang hospital re DD1's heart issue and she was offered a phone consultation tomorrow as there was a cancellation - reliefCaught up on PT job #1 at lunch and had nice chat with colleague.
Logged off early from FT job to pull up weeds in the garden as garden waste collection finishes this week till March.
Going to do a small shop so DD1 has some food tomorrow when she's staying here and hopefully get petrol. Off to visit DD2 at her uni house tomorrow, first visit, cant wait
Gratitudes - helpful colleagues; DD1 getting a phone appointment; DD2 being assertive (with mum backup) & getting some rent back due to lots of problems with the start of her tenancy

Evening turtles
Spend day today as needed some eggs, a small cake may also have accidentally fallen into my basket
I also had to buy a few necessities for my fish so took the opportunity to get that done, and some expanding foam for DIY purposes.
My back was playing up today, original plan was to do some yoga this morning and cycle to the farm shop but I listened to my body and have taken it easy. Did manage to strip some more wallpaper, I feel like this is the longest anyone has taken to strip wallpaper but it's so boring I can't do it all at once!6 -
A NSD day today which takes me to 5. Really pleased with this one as I had to go to town for a check-up at the dentist and it was the open air market day. If the fish stall had been set up I probably would have lost the NSD.
Gardener came today so all weeded and grass cut so looking good. Boiler being repaired and serviced tomorrow but no payment necessary as it’s covered under my service contract. Don’t generally like maintenance contracts but I make an exception for the boiler as heating and hot water are essentials in my book.
Today was another productive day in work. Due to new systems and a new department fully staffed by new staff we have had a bit of a backlog and I feel I’m starting to get on top of things.
Grateful today for sunny weather, clean and tidy gardens, dogs behaving themselves whilst I was on conference calls and my teeth only needing one small filling later this month. That money talks I don't deny, I heard it once, it said "Goodbye"6 -
I had to work in the office today. Transport doesn’t count as a spend but buying a coffee, a burrito, a big bar of chocolate, and a pair of swim socks absolutely does. 😂 Conclusion is going to the office is bad for my health and my bank balance. However it was nice to spend some in-person time with the rest of my team, and it was helpful from a work perspective.Grateful for seeing colleagues, for a very decent cappuccino, a tasty burrito, and for a reminder of how privileged I am for having a fair employer, supportive colleagues, flexibility at work.
