My final bill is on Avro Assets site. My balance on the front page has not changed but if I go into my bills it is there, dated September 2021 and it does say final bill when I open it.

There is nothing new showing on my Octopus Account.

From my own experience it seems to happen in stages so the bill and balance transfer may show up on your Octopus Dashboard later today or perhaps tomorrow and you will then receive an email from Octopus confirming that your final Avro bill has been issued.

  • If you submit your current meter readings to Octopus online then they will use them to generate a bill. I don't think it matters that the Avro final readings are yet displayed on the account - they must know them to generate a current balance.
Octopus can't produce statements without the opening meter readings from Avro being on the Octopus system. They have no opening meter readings on the Octopus system to start billing from.
I have already submitted meter readings for the end of October and no Octopus statement has been produced.

My bill has now been transferred to Octopus, and my meter readings are also showing on my meter reading history.

Just received my Avro final bill which is the same amount that is now on my Octopus account £219cr. I never cancelled my Avro d/d and never created an Octopus d/d. Just waiting to find out from Octopus if my Avro d/d will definitely be migrated over to Octopus before I do anything else.

Interesting article from Greg Jackson, CEO of Octopus..

    https://octopus.energy/blog/the-price-cap-is-not-responsible-for-the-demise-of-energy-companies/

Blames regulatory failings for allowing some of these companies to take risks such as not hedging. He does mention that hedging requires a lot of capital that some of the challengers just didn't have
I'm not buying this argument. Another industry that requires hedging are the airlines. Fuel is a HUGE item that factors in their costs and ultimately what they charge for tickets (or cargo). I cannot recall how many years ago when oil jumped to like $140 a barrel - airlines responded by imposing "fuel surcharges" to ticket prices (or cargo shipments had a "fuel surcharge" added to the invoice). Had these companies not been able to pass on an added cost (higher fuel costs) - even though many had very sophisticated hedging policies in place - and had adequate capital - many of these companies would simply have stopped offering their services - and ceased trading.

While no customers were happy to pay a fuel surcharge - the services continued for the most part (there were a few casualties - Monarch comes to mind).

Without doubt many of those who ceased trading  were run terribly - and time will tell - for some- to see if criminally.

But there can be no doubt that many of the companies that ceased trading, would still be trading - if like the airlines - they could have added a "fuel surcharge". The price cap prevented them doing so.

What we will get instead is a DELAYED "fuel surcharge" being added to all our bills come April - with far less competition in the marketplace as a result.
Airlines forward sell seats. Cashflow is generally positive. Likewise easier to quantify and forecast forward usage depending on planed flight schedules.

I've managed to find my gas opening reading (Avro closing reading) on the Octopus Dashboard but it's only visible to me when I select the"Take me back to the old consumption dashboard" option.
The electcity meter readings are a totally different matter. I have an old SMETS1 meter from my days with EON which magically started transmitting data to Octopus but I'm not sure when this started working again and just shows a meaningless half hourly kWh total with no running total. There's no meter reading data available for electricity before 25th October so I would guess that's the date it started tranmitting data again.
I would guess Octopus are still in the process of building the new usage home page as it's only half finished.

Today's Octopus Update for ex-Avro customers

It's not really clear in the update but this is huge positive for customers. Debt collection will be carried out by Octopus instead of the administrator. I know who I'd rather be chasing my money (although I had a credit balance)

I have just entered my meter readings and a bill has been generated on Octopus site.

After a bit more digging around on the Octopus system I think I've managed to resolve the issue with the Smart Meter electricity readings. By setting my Smart Meter data preferences option to either Monthly or Daily instead of Half Hourly and selecting the "Take me back to the old dashboard (for now)" link at the bottom of the main Dashboard page both the gas and electricity opening readings from Avro plus the meter readings I entered on 31st October are all listed.
I will be entering meter readings on 30th November which will hopefully produce my first Octopus statement covering the period from 26th September to 30th November. I (and I think everybody else) would have preferred it if the meter readings I have already entered on 31st October had generated my first Octopus statement.
I also think it would have been really helpful and less confusing for everybody if Octopus had not put the unfinished new version of the Dashboard and usage home page live on the system until it was fully built, fully functioning and fit for purpose.

My Avro balance has now been transferred to my Octopus Account, It shows the balance to be the same as the day Avro went out of business. The final bill has not been taken off.
