  • Given that my monthly standing charges for gas and electric were around £5 for each with Avro, my bills with Octopus will be huge. Wondering if Octopus will change my tariff or will need to shop around instead. I think I have the highest rates so far - anyone beat this? This is not so great-value for me... :(

You're on Flexible Avro, our always great-value variable tariff.

    Your prices (including VAT) are:

    • A standing charge of 25.08p per day and 20.40p/kWh for your electricity.
    • A standing charge of 26.11p per day and 4.00p/kWh for your gas

You are going to have problems finding anywhere cheaper as the majority of suppliers are not offering their capped SVT to new  switching customers, or in some cases are not even accepting switches at all, and Octopus has set your tariff slightly below the Ofgem cap anyway..
You may find that 'Neon Reef' is your only option for something cheaper, but it is anyone's guess how long they will last with a tariff that prices energy below the current cost...

I have exactly the same rates, so suspect we are in the same region of the UK.

I estimate my standing charges moving from £9.30pm (for both) to £15.86pm (based on 31 day month)

That looks like Eastern region, and no, those numbers are below the highest possible, 5 other regions are going to be higher for most people.

    This is from their FAQ.
As per their other recent comments they are still in the middle of transferring the accounts and it looks like they have not got to yours yet, but it should take no more than another week or so...

  • County Durham rates:

You're on Flexible Avro, our always great-value variable tariff.

    Your prices (including VAT) are:
    • A standing charge of 26.45p per day and 20.01p/kWh for your electricity.
    • A standing charge of 26.11p per day and 3.91p/kWh for your gas.
  • Web page now showing a meter reading request will be mailed out tomorrow (for me). It is around the same tome Avro did. Hopefully they allow for the old economy 7 meter that is now just standard.
