Moved from Octopus to Avro last year. Since the recent news, I tried logging into my old Octopus account - which worked. Added bonus was my Octopus account was £188 in credit since August 2020...Looks like Octopus had taken a DD in August after I had switched away in July 2020.
I think I have been a little too trusting...lesson learnt.
Hopefully I see my £584 credit from Avro transferred across...
I think you need to keep a closer eye on your direct debits, given you'll now be £672 in credit. I'd advise you to change your direct debit on the octopus website to around £5, let you bills eat your credit balance up, and keep an eye on you balance every month, then move the direct debit back up when the credit balance is nearer £50-100.
  • I've still not been contacted by Octopus about taking over the account....

I'd be asking them what they thought they were doing?? You forgetting to cancel the DD is one thing but them keeping a balance for that length of time with no account is something else. I'm assuming, of course,  the move went ok with no hassles at the Avro end.

That's also a fairly tasty Avro balance you have too...admittedly don't know your usage.

Switch from Octopus went without a hitch, so perhaps there was a lag between account 'closure' and DD being taken. Hoping the Octoteam will amalgamate the two amounts when this is all sorted out.

Wasnt too fussed about the Avro balance as it sitting in the bank isnt very interesting these days. Besides, what could possibly have gone wrong....

Most opinions on here seem to rate their CS as decent so maybe it was an oversight on their behalf and down to human error. However, that cash should really have been back in your account long ago.

Quite a few  people, not me, don't mind a fairly decent balance at their energy supplier especially at this time of year but personally i would rather have quick access to it than sitting in their account. I only say this beacuse i know i can fortunately, certainly at the moment, handle any big bill coming my way.

I remember years ago having to get involved with BG on behalf of my wife's gran who had built up about £500 and that was going into the summer. She's not a big user and it was painful trying to get some of it back i can tell you. Opened my eyes up that did. Told her to leave them if they didn't play ball.
  • I was supposed to have Avro taking over supply on 1 October and so far have heard nothing from anyone. I’m assuming the switch is continuing for the moment (although I hope it isn’t at this point as I’d rather get the £50 credit for a referred switch to Octopus). Just have to sit on my hands and wait, based on this thread…
My switch over day is tomorrow 29th, so I’ll keep you posted!

Any updates as of today? How are people feeling
  • Try this:

    UPDATE 12PM TUESDAY 28 SEPT.

We are currently working on our next update email which we are hoping to send out tomorrow.

We are now working with Avro's technology partners so we expect this will include asking you to send us meter readings (if you haven't already).

By the end of this week we will also send letters to anyone who didn't have an email address registered with Avro, updating them on what is happening and with the same request for meter readings.

Please continue to bear with us for now, and don't contact us unless it is an emergency.

We are still waiting for formal confirmation of the appointment Avro’s administrators. Once complete we will be able to engage directly with the Avro team.

  • This bit from the new update hints that Octopus may not currently have access to details of people in mid-switch to Avro:

If you think you are an Avro customer, and haven't heard from us, or you were in the middle of switching to Avro and haven't heard from us, please don't worry. You won't be left without power at any time - we are still getting full access to Avro's systems and may not have come across you yet.
  • Just had an email to set up DD and re enter readings with a new link to avro. I was away when they first asked, entered this am on the old site but thought why not on the new link.
