I cancelled my Avro DD which was due for payment a few days after they ceased trading. Octopus web site says it expects new accounts to be up and running in 14 days (really?) so by then a new DD should be set up and ready to go seamlessly.
I'll believe it when I see it. To set up 600,00 new accounts in 14 days seems to me to be a bit of a tall order - particularly after Avro.
So why stop your dd if you think it's going to take sometime to switch? If that happens you could find your in debt.

The Ofgem website said you can cancel the direct debit if you want to
  • I do hope its SVT or better, Octopus website quote for my usage:- £2,253
  • Ofgem should update their "cancel your direct debit if you want to" advice as clearly some SoLR would prefer the DD's remain in place. It's in all our interests to make the SoLR's lives as easy as possible to ensure a speedy transition.

I'm probably in a different position to a lot as i got out Monday night and got a start date of 7th October. Even though i've enough to clear usage up until they crashed (i'll probably have about £70/80 after squaring up) i've not cancelled DD yet. I will, however, do exactly that  come the 7th if my supply does indeed start with Sainsburys. Probably over cautious but i don't want anything to mess the move up, certainly not of my own doing

OK we`re a few days down the line now and we know Octopus is taking over and everythings going to be up and running in 14 days (maybe).

Last Wednesday when the news broke, some of us who had built up credit were actually trying to contact Avro for weeks to try and get some of it refunded, didn`t fancy having more taken to disappear into the ether.
Avro site showed no accounts then and everything was blanked out.

That`s the reason why some cancelled their DD,including me.
I have no doubt Octopus will soon contact me and ask me to set a new DD with them.
At the moment I`m well in credit and at least I know no more money can be taken to go wherever.

Was hoping it may take a bit longer to be announced. My switch to Sainsbury's is due to complete on the 5th. Fingers crossed that still goes through

You will still have a relationship with the SoLR: ie, they will want to bill you for the energy that they have supplied.
  • As one of that small subset of ex-Avro customers who have actually left Avro, received a final statement but still have a credit balance yet to be repaid outstanding,  I hope Octopus are true to their word in what they state on their website.

"If you have recently left Avro and have a credit or debit to settle, please do not contact us yet. We will contact you within the next 4 weeks to let you know what happens next."
