My in-laws are with Avro but I have no idea if they are in credit or not. I went to log in this evening and it's all blank :(  Should I advise them to stop their DD?  What is the consequence if they are in a debit position with Avro?

    Thanks

    Naomi
They will get a bill for a debit balance. The DD will transfer across to the new supplier (SoLR).
  • my bank have informed me that they can refund a certain number of months direct debits, so I've asked them to go ahead and do so. I've no idea exactly how far in credit I was with avro, but being end of summer it was probably quite a bit. getting the recent direct debits refunded seems a prudent course of action to be covered in case of confusion with the switch over to the new supplier.

My energy supplier PFP Energy went bust during the last two weeks. I'd just like to let you know as Avro customers attempting to cancel the DD with your bank, many pfp customers (see thread) incurred a £12 charge from pfp and they won't refund it.
If you wish to cancel your direct debit, check the terms and conditions to see if you pay a penalty for this or speak with Avro directly.
I wouldn't necessarily rely on Ts&Cs for predicting that - PFP didn't have the £12 charge in theirs (what they actually had was the right to I've you to another tariff with 3 days warning if two direct debit payments were missed).

Ok meant to be switching to Avro tomorrow, will i stay with my current supplier which is  British gas now then?
In same boat, due to switch on 24th. Not sure what happens now. Was with BG too prior to doing the switch
  • I've just heard the news about Avro and am in a bit of a quandry as to what to do, as my fixed price deal with them ends next month anyway and I'm £250 in credit, so I've been looking for deals to move and today found what I think is a half decent one which although my D/D goes up from £96 to £145 pm (a lot less than most want) it'd be a 3 year fixed term and get I'd £150 TopCashBack, but teh advcie seems to be to wait, but if I do that in the time it takes for the transfer the prices could (likely will) go up yet again and I'd miss out on the cashback.

DD to Avro cancelled as i am £140 in credit anyway
Spending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.
  • I do fear for customers once this gets resolved. Once a SOLR is appointed, it can take months to set up accounts. Meantime, the customers will be on higher rates but the DD remains the same. Eventually, a catch up bill will be issued which will be a shock to many.

This whole crisis should however wake people up to the fact that they shouldn't just rely on a DD at £X or a smart meter.

They need to be aware of their usage and tariff (whatever that may be), check their bills and keep an eye on their account debit or credit levels.

The media could do a better job of informing customers exactly how the cap works, so people can calculate their personal costs, rather than rely on the "typical user" soundbite.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)
  • In the middle of a switch between igloo & Avro. Igloo account is in credit of £206 up to last bill (16 Sept). Avro have today taken initial £51 upfront payment. DDs to both companies have been cancelled. Will just have to squirrel away some money until sole gets in touch. But they can take into account payments/credits with both igloo & Avro before asking for any money!!
  • I am in the process of switching to green. The date to start is 26th..l am just inside the 14 day cancellation, shall l exercise it? I don't want to be stuck on a high tariff for months until it's sorted.
