Avro Energy Ceasing to Trade

  • I've cancelled my DD just in case, I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do.

Since I'm an Avro customer and likely to be placed on a variable tarrif with a SoLR, I've been looking at fixed deals and am tempted to just go ahead and sign up with EDF.

I know Ofgem are recommending against it, but I don't see why other than it makes their administrative work perhaps a bit more difficult to tie everything up?   If I go ahead should I do it from today's date or my renewal date?  My contract expires on October 3rd.

You may find the variable tariff is a lot cheaper then any fix available now

Yes right now the variable tarrifs seem to be reasonable, but I was listening to the radio and the price cap is up for renewal within "a few months time", additionally wholesale prices are "up by 6x", so they're expecting prices to sky rocket.
  • I have no idea what my balance was. whether I was in credit or otherwise. and all that information is gone from their website. how are you supposed to know (or trust) if the correct balance amounts are transferred to the new supplier? or get hold of your account details and bills?

Is there any advice for what those who were in the middle of switching to Avro should do?

For many weeks they were coming up as the cheapest on all the comparison sites, I switched on 9th September and they have just taken a advance direct debit from me - yet my switch is supposed to complete on the 30th.

Will we automatically stay with the current supplier or do we still need to contact them to officially cancel?

Edit - ignore this read it as you were switching away from Avro. Will leave it up for those that might be in the process of switching away.

Just hold tight and see what happens. With any luck it will complete.

Hopefully with so many going it will take a while for the solr process to be implemented and hopefully by that time switches will have completed. If they do compete and you get switched away as part of solr, you can deal with that as part of erroneous switch process.

Your transfer will continue but instead of ending up with Avro, your new supplier will be whoever Ofgem appoint to take over their customers
Thank you for the replies, I live chatted with Outfox the Market, my current supply, and they have objected to the switch so will stay with them. I think it is far more reassuring than waiting for whoever Avro’s SOLR turns out to be.

Anyone else who was still in the process of moving to Avro could also ask their current supplier to object.

Avro are not picking up the phone, and it took me somewhere between 4-6 weeks to get an email response to my renewal query.

Personally, I'd be on the phone to the bank and ask what they can do to refund/block your direct debit, then call your current energy supplier and ask them whether you will need to take action or sit tight.
Good idea, I’ll call the bank as the DD was only taken today. It probably is a far speedier way of getting the money back than waiting for the SOLR in many months time

I just renewed with Avro last week and the Direct Debit was supposed to be taken this coming Friday. I have just been on to my online banking and cancelled the DD, however the details that showed on the banking site were for the the old monthly amount before renewal.

Couple of questions, the DD I have just cancelled - now shows as being cancelled on my online banking, have I acted it in time to prevent Fridays DD being taken?

Can Avro still attempt to take the DD despite them ceasing trading today, and is there anything else I need to do in order to prevent this happening?

    Thanks

P.S. I have just taken photographs of my meter readings

I presume if they've ceased trading no further direct debit will be taken. I only ask because I've got a dd coming out it  two days time.
I would cancel the direct debit personally
