  • f Avro was still trading and I did not switch then I would have moved to a variable tarrif, so surely this will be the case with a new provider. Will this be more painful for me financially as by the time the new provider contacts me any fixed deal I was planning to go to will be less favorable by the minute?

Possibly, are there still fixed tariffs that are below the current cap?  I genuinely havent looked (avro customer here)

    Will I loose my credit?

no but it could take months to get it back and you will probably be asked for an upfront payment from your new SOLR
  • I don't see why you'd want to lock your payment up with an insolvent company while you wait for the SoLR to credit it back to you. Might as well keep it in your bank account, and directly pay your new supplier. They'll want paying, regardless of whether any credit balance you had from Avro has been reconciled (which can sometimes take months).

New SOLR will possibly put you on a non-DD cap (slightly more than DD) but weigh that up against Avro taking a full month DD on top of your new SOLR wanting a full month and I think I would happily swallow a couple of months slightly higher tariff.  For me it would only be around £4 more.
  • I left to another supplier in June because AVRO wouldn't reply to requests regarding high credit amassing on account. Changeover with other supplier went smoothly but AVRO held final bill for 6wksnot replying to emails, released September dated July. We managed to get an answer to an email I had sent stating we did not give any more authority to keep taking DDs as they were doing up until September. In that email we asked ABOUT REFUND they said it would be paid on release of Final Bill. Final Bill was released on 8th September,  today still no refund, they owe me £346 and no replies to emails since August. Now because they have folded and because we have already been with new supplier since July are we still covered for our refund. Do I need to contact ombudsman.

True, but surely you can immediately switch to the DD version on account setup when contacted by your new supplier?

If you take a meter reading now, it shows how much power had been supplied by Avro before they went bust.  The new supplier may also ask for another meter reading, but it is safest to have as much data as possible at your fingertips.
According to the Ofgen web site at https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/information-consumers/energy-advice-households/what-happens-if-your-energy-supplier-goes-bust, customers of companies which failed on the 14th have already been allocated to new suppliers, so I assume we can expect to hear within the week.

i took a meter reading on the 18th when my statement was due? I believe that was before they announced it went bust as there was no message on the websiite

Is that good enough or shall i take another reading?

No harm in taking one every day, is there?  The more information you have, the better.
  • I've been trying to get on to Avro's website for the past 40 mins or so, signed in ok but nothing is loading. I'm assuming everyone else it trying to do the same as me and download previous bills along with a screen shot of the credit my account is in.

While I understand that credit will be protected, I receive benefits and I've not seen anything said regarding Warm Home Scheme. Will we loose that or will new providers honour that because we have to be with a company by a before a certain time in order to qualify for it.

It's a worrying time isn't it? God knows how much our new bills will be. I thought I was at least safe until May next year.

Good luck everyone, I've got my fingers crossed for us all!
