As an Avro customer should we be cancelling our Avro D/D as mine comes out at the beginning of the month? Thanks
Ofgem says you can cancel the direct debit if you want to. I cancelled mine last night as it was due to come out soon.

Says it in the questions on this page:

But u already know it will be on of the big suppliers guaranteed and they will have awful rates. So maybe worth having a look now to get on the best tarrif no?

Each day goes by the more expensive the tarifs become
The rates may be high but unlikely to be awful. Probably standard tariff will be the cheapest thanks to the price cap

So is the 1st bill produced by the new SoLR from the date Avro went bust or from the last bill/ meter readings Avro produced?

My energy company failed last December. Take a meter reading and use it with the new company - my tariff with the new company took nearly three months to sort out and no direct debit was taken in the interim - so put the money aside. My credit was honoured. Even if the Avro site is down now, it will probably come back. Use the meter reading and screen-shot or print bills and annual usage statements.

If you were in debt, consider whether to reduce the reading you use a little, if in credit, maybe increase it a little - your tariff with Avro should be honoured up to that point of failure and you might want to maximise the value you get from that money.

For us, we were moved from Yorkshire Energy to Scottish Power onto an exclusive tariff with them for former YE customers that was virtually the same for six months and our credit was transferred. It was a bit stressful but a good experience, in the circumstances. I actually renewed with Scottish Power on a competitive tariff in July.
    Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £10,020.92 out of £6000 after September
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £2234.63/£3000 or 74.49% of my annual spend so far (not going to be much of a Christmas at this rate as no spare after 9 months!

The advice on the news this morning is not to cancel the DD,  mine goes out tomorrow

I don't see why you'd want to lock your payment up with an insolvent company while you wait for the SoLR to credit it back to you. Might as well keep it in your bank account, and directly pay your new supplier. They'll want paying, regardless of whether any credit balance you had from Avro has been reconciled (which can sometimes take months).

Since essentially everyone will be in credit with Avro - that is how they preferred to operate - the nominal risk of cancelling a direct debit, namely that the administrators may choose to pass any debts to a collection agency rather than to the new supplier, seems to be a non-issue for most. Obviously, if you did have a large debt with them you might want to keep reducing it, but that doesn't stop whatever remains being passed on to a debt collection anyway as that is still up to the administrators and SoLR.
  • Any advice help appreciated.

I am due to move tomorrow and not sure how I inform Avro energy of my final meter readings.  Do I need to inform the new vendors that Avro energy have gone bust?

I've took the advice and cancelled the DD for tomorrow,  I'm also in credit of £200 so they don't need anymore money

You need to wait until the SoLR has taken over your account and give them the meter readings along with the date when you were no longer responsible for the property. Your buyers will need to contact the SoLR once the dust has settled with a meter reading and their details.

The administrators will bill you based on the avro tariff.

The SOLR deemed tariff will probably start either yesterday or today.

  • Hi there,
My present deal was due to to end on the 29 September 2021 and I have £98 Credit. I was going to switch anyway to sainsbury energy.
If Avro was still trading and I did not switch then I would have moved to a variable tarrif, so surely this will be the case with a new provider. Will this be more painful for me financially as by the time the new provider contacts me any fixed deal I was planning to go to will be less favorable by the minute? Will I loose my credit?
