You can switch as soon as the switch to Octopus is complete. Have a read of https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/avro-energy-customers-your-questions-new-supplier-octopus-energy.
Or they honour AVRO until all the ducks are in a row
How a company can blindly charge you without telling the customer what they are paying is ridiculous
I disagree. I maybe wrong but i believe its a legalisation that we have to be supplied gas and electric in circumstances like this so there is nothing to be thankfull for. Its what we pay for! Its not as if we are getting it for FREE.
The issue i have is we could be getting charged ridiculous amounts for the next bill date and there is nothing we can do about it! How should this be allowed??????
You went with a cheap company with questionable finances, paying a little bit extra for a period is the price you pay for the gamble you took. Realistically you'll be quids in regardless, and all the people paying the "Big 6" prices will subsidise the credit that your supplier has half-inched. I'd ask "how should that be allowed?" but I'm not sure you're all that interested in that.
We have established that is no an alternative. You cannot be with Gas or Electric.
I went with a company who have been good to me and i have had no problems with during the time i have been with them! Not sure how ile be quids in and its called competition not a monopoly like the big 6 who take the over the market and count the cash. I am happy for all these smaller firms to come and challenge the big 6 - as you should be!0 -

@xlnc, why not wait until Octopus contact you? As you have cancelled your DD mandate to Avro, they will undoubtedly ask you for your bank details if you wish to pay Octopus by DD. And if you don't want to give Octopus your DD details (which is your choice) then you need to be prepared for them to put onto a higher tariff compared to those who have either kept the DD mandate open/provide Octopus with details assuming they ask for them.
Another thing to mull over, if your fixed rate was coming to the end with another supplier right now, you would not be able to get a rate now lower than the cap0 -
i cancelled the DD because of advice on the forum. I do want to pay by DD and will continue to do so but not sure what to do now? Did i try reverse it? Do i contact OCT to tell them?
I just renewed last month with AVRO - so am gutted. WAs on the cheapest tarriff around0 -

@xlnc99, there was discussion whether to cancel DDs in various places in the MSE forums, and there were opinions on both sides. You know that nothing written in any of these boards is official advice; the decision whether or not you should cancel had to be yours alone. The thing to do now will be to wait until Octopus contact you - I would guess it will be within two or three days - and then decide what action you want to take, whether to go with the tariff they offer you or to choose a different one they offer, or to wait until the switch to them is complete and then switch to another supplier, which you can do with no exit penalty. All of the suppliers are going to be much more expensive than we have been accustomed to, because they are all paying out huge sums for the gas and electricity they are then selling on to us.In the meantime, I suggest you look at Octopus's web site and see what tariffs they can offer you, based on your annual gas and electricity spend in Kwh; and also, assuming you belong to the MSE Cheap Energy Club, see what is available there, just for future reference.Above all, don't panic. Hundreds of thousands of people are in the same boat, and you are not being treated in any way differently to them.

I just renewed last month with AVRO - so am gutted. WAs on the cheapest tarriff aroundDon't panic. Really. You've cancelled your DD as no doubt thousands of other Avro customers have done. Octopus will be in touch in the coming weeks and will offer you the chance to set up a new one. In the meantime just remember that each missed DD is that much money not paid to your account, and will have to be paid at some time in the next six months or so.N. Hampshire, he/him. For a halfway house option, it is possible to reverse a single DD payment without cancelling the mandate. This could be a good option for someone who has a payment due/made post-administration and has already built up a lot of credit so does not wish to make the balance even larger. Once set up with an online account, the DD can be managed from there.
