Apologies to anyone I may have caused offence to - I wasn't thinking.6 -
No apology necessary! I work with a team who all get bonuses and I don’t as my contract is different. We all do the same job and it’s extremely annoying at bonus time for me…yet I have flexi time and work from home…so swings and roundabouts I guess 😬Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

So am off today with the DC. Fingers crossed this is the LAST day on my own with them in the horrid flat!!!! DC2 been up most of the night again - he has a huge molar coming through so think it is this. Might try some calpol mid-night tonight to see if that helps. He is now down for a nap (lucky thing!). DC1 is watching something random on Cbeebies. Won't read or do anything else with me. Once we are no longer in the flat I will be doing more craft things with them as we will have a table and space and I won't be worried about them getting paint on someone else's carpet/floor. Tv will be staying off!
Not sure what to do with them today as weather is a bit pants and MIL is out. I struggle at the park with them on my own as DC2 can't go on the stuff DC1 can go on and I can't leave either of them. At least in the new house we will (once ordered) have play equipment they can just go on there.
Got a message yesterday from a sort of friend (bloke and his wife I know through other people, been on the odd weekend away with them but not friend friends) to say that he understood we were soon to be neighbours (such is the way of island life!). Not sure who they've heard it from, possibly another friend of mine who is close friends with her. However, they are literally buying the house to the rear/side of us today! They have 2 young DC also so could be a good thing.
Lawyers have confirmed they received the balance of funds so now only covid can stop us (or a death in the chain).
Bit annoyed with my friend who is the daughter of the landlady - we asked them ages ago to check gardeners not coming with their huge truck whilst we are moving - chased them yesterday - nothing - so called the gardeners myself (hadn't before as wasn't sure they would speak to me) - 2 min job and they are not coming. Also rang gas and electric to check we can actually submit meter readings or whether they need to attend as it's a tenanted flat - again, something I've been asking them to do for ages (the son in law's idea was just to get the quarterly bill and we pro-rata it but I don't want to get hit on the standing charges or if they decide to leave the heating on at all as once we are not here we are not using it) - again, sorted in 2 minutes. I know they are busy work wise but I work almost full time and have 2 kids, laundry, bum wiping etc and I manage. I honestly don't know how they survive day to day. On a weekend they very rarely rise before 2.

You know that thing about if you want something done give it to a busy person...............that would be you! Versus them who work at a different pace entirely and watch snails go by!
it is a bloody pain tho. Still so excited for your move XXXNevertheless she persisted.4 -
Well done on the pay rise, bonus and dynamism!
You've done your last day solo in the flat with the littles, onward and upward!2 -

Did an M&S shop this morning - just over £37. Milk(!) x 4, a chinese for DH and I for tonight as it's friday, some bacon and baps to have tuesday and thursday mornings in celebration of the move, raspberries, apples, bananas and satsumas for the DC and pudding for tonight - quite expensive for what it was writing that down actually!
Have asked DH to fill car up at the cheaper garage by his mum's this arvo. Then I will do big shop tomorrow - we need things like cloths and cleaning sprays/dishwasher cleaner to clean the flat and will just be buying convenience meals for sun - thurs as we need quick and easy - but this is a one off due to move. So not expecting cheap but we have so much to do.
Will def be having wine tonight and watching final series of After Life.1 -
Just over 130 on the big shop but included gifts for the lawyer and his team (gin and chocs respectively as he wrote off all his fees on the house that fell through in the summer), 2 x boxes of chocs for landlady and lady upstairs who has had to put up with all our noise and dirty nappy smells as she passes our door for almost a year(!) plus cleaning stuff/oven cleaner etc. And the ready meals are just under £9 a pop. There was also a meal deal for vals day Monday which was starter, main, side, dessert and wine for £20 so got that as we ought to make an effort mon (but are not doing gifts or cards), plus we will save the starter to have with something else for another meal. So not a cheap shop this week but we do need quick, easy and delicious for next week given the moving and little spare time.
From next week's shop we will be able to do lots of batch cooking as we will have the freezer space - finally!
DH is making a ragu tonight which is pretty much from stores bar I had to buy garlic, stock, 2 carrots and an onion. He's just retrieved the carpet shampooer from storage and is cleaning it. We will no longer have £120 a month storage costs once we move, though it won't make any difference to our outgoings as our mortgage is significantly more than our rent anyway, but at least it will be going towards something.
Need to get the kids out and about today but it is freezing. DC2 currently down for a nap. Not yet filled car with petrol (DH said it was rammed yesterday arvo) so need to do that also. We watched the Tinder Swindler last night - my goodness!
DH was in touch with our vendors yesterday. The movers apparently packed all their stuff Thursday and took it then did the large furniture yesterday so reckon they must be out by now. Really hoping they (or cleaners) give it a good clean as that will save us lots of time and effort.
Feel like this purchase has been straightforward really (obvs once they found somewhere, and as we know the search itself was just terrible) and they have been lovely people to deal with. But also hoping they've found us good to deal with as we've just got on with it and not tried to haggle over anything.4
