I’m just (slightly) concerned that the transaction will be seen as a payment via  third party, a bit like PayPal unless the actual physical debit card is used.
No, it isn't, but card payments made via Paypal are eligible for cashback providing they are in a category on the exclusions list.
And PayPal is funded by the debit card and not a Direct Debit, of course, as another MSEr found out recently.

Many thanks for all the replies and reassurance that I can claim cashback with Apple pay.

Apologies for confusion re. “Android pay” when I should have said “Google”.

Can anyone confirm that the 1% cash back is earned when using the card via Apple pay (or Android pay) ?  I’m just (slightly) concerned that the transaction will be seen as a payment via  third party, a bit like PayPal unless the actual physical debit card is used.
Eligible transactions get cashback through ApplePay, and therefore I assume also through GooglePay. Not sure about SamsungPay, and I am not aware of a thing called AndroidPay.

You normally also get this cashback when paying via Curve (with or without ApplePay etc) but for some odd reason, special cashback promos might only work if you use the actual Chase card. This was the case with the Amazon promo Chase ran last year.

I don't know anything about Chase cashback and Paypal as I haven't used/needed Paypal in years.
This was discussed/explained in another thread (search skills letting me down).

When using Curve etc, with Chase (or other card):

The merchant sees Curve as the card used (no visibility of Chase)

Chase see the transaction to be with Curve, and sees Curves MID (Merchant ID)
Curve does however passthrough a name for the Merchant (makes transactions easier to understand in Chase activity) e.g CRV Amazon.
Curve also passes through the actual merchants MCC (Merchant Category Code), which allows Chase to determine if cashback is applicable.

As such Chase knows the type/category of merchant (MCC) but not the actual merchant ID (MID) and so merchant specific offers may not track correctly.

I’ve just used the card to pay off an additional amount on a small Tesco loan that I have. It’s shown as a “purchase” in the Chase app, so hopefully it’ll be eligible for the 1% cash back too.

If it is eligible it will already be showing in the pending cashback. If not, then you're out of luck.

Is it visible as 'pending' under rewards? My eligible purchases always show as pending as soon as the transaction does

Nope, looks like I’m out of luck. A little disappointing  , but I only have £1500 left to pay off.

Android Pay became Google Pay back in 2018 and very lucrative it was for the first month as a promotion was run to win gift cards where the odds were amazingly good  :) ........about £3500 good !!
  • I am having a problem when using my card on line as everything goes ok untill it comes round to id check where I have to comfirm that its me making the purchase. I log on to the chase app and the mastercard id check starts to fire up but I just get the spinning wheel ring of death that just goes round and round untill untill whatever website Im trying to purchase from times out as I have taken to long to confirm my purchase, as soon as this happens I then get the chase message asking me If I want to make this purchase but by then its to late. This has only just start to happen as it worked very well untill this week.

I have messaged chase who told me to force the app to close and as that didnt work they asked me to delete the app and reinstall it, again this did not work. their next answer was it must be the website (aviva) I was trying to purchase from's fault, but I tried to buy something else on a different site and had the exact same problem so I was wondering if anybody else had the same problem and if so how did they overcome it?

Have you tried making the payment through Curve? I have just made an online purchase, went through without a hitch.
