It wouldn't necessarily follow, but there is a risk it could also apply to external transfers. I've done several transfers via the main current account to the "savings" account in quick succession in both directions, and can confirm Daliah's observed delay also seems to apply when moving money out of the saver just prior to an outgoing FP. However, money received into the main current account can be moved within seconds of it appearing. That would suggest it is only internal transfers that are the problem, but a few transactions isn't enough data to say for sure.RG2015 said:
Thanks. This is good to know, although very disappointing for a bank of JPMC's standing to fall foul of such shoddy IT.Daliah said:
There’s a major snag though with money transferred from the savings account to the current account. Even though the transferred money shows instantly, you can’t necessarily spend it instantly with the debit card. Chase can reject payments with an “insufficient balance” message for several minutes after the internal transfer. They have already paid me compensation for this, and hopefully they will solve this issue before long.RG2015 said:
They appear to be instant.miller said:
I didn't realise Chase was instant clearing? Are they not just hiding the fact they're pending?phillw said:
I activated roundup and went to do an online payment for £5.9, so I moved in £6 & it was declined.miller said:
Tried at Sainsbury's Pay at Pump today and the card was declined. Looking at the Chase app it tried to authorise for £100 and I had less than £100 in the account (but greater than £0). According to the MSE article I read, that's not how it should work (I should have been allowed to fill up to the account balance of ~£50). In the end I paid with a different card.
I got a text message saying a £1 and a £5.90 transaction were declined due to insufficient funds.
So I transferred another £4 across, retried & it went through & then I transferred the £4 back. Instant clearing debit card transactions will take some getting used to, Halifax normally give you a couple of days (and an overdraft...)
Sainsbury's put a £100 hold on my friends credit card that lasted days, as well as the actual amount.
I also like the fact that, unlike other banks you do not need to log out and log back in to see deposits which appear instantly.
I guess this state of balance limbo would also apply to external transfers in.

Does anyone know how to find the physical card number for a Chase card? For those who think that's an odd question, Chase uses a different card number for physical card payments than the one you can view in the app (you will notice this if you look at a receipt).
This doesn't make any practical difference usually but it means that if you sign up for Airtime Rewards it won't track any physical card payments as they're using a different number from what you've registered. I'm wondering if there's some clever way to find out the card number.0 -
You can use an NFC reader app to get it from your physical card. This won't capture the CVV2 number, so the details can't be used for most cardholder not present transactions.Deleted_User said:Does anyone know how to find the physical card number for a Chase card? if you use the physical card with TfL/the tube (or similar?) and then look at the transaction details in the app, you will see:

Are you saying I need to travel to London to find out my card details???gt94sss2 said:Deleted_User said:Does anyone know how to find the physical card number for a Chase card? Can anyone confirm that the 1% cash back is earned when using the card via Apple pay (or Android pay) ? I’m just (slightly) concerned that the transaction will be seen as a payment via third party, a bit like PayPal unless the actual physical debit card is used.0

Is android pay, Google pay ?.graham47 said:Can anyone confirm that the 1% cash back is earned when using the card via Apple pay (or Android pay) ? If so yes. I pay for most things using Google pay and it’s all tracked at 1%.1 -
Eligible transactions get cashback through ApplePay, and therefore I assume also through GooglePay. Not sure about SamsungPay, and I am not aware of a thing called AndroidPay.graham47 said:Can anyone confirm that the 1% cash back is earned when using the card via Apple pay (or Android pay) ? You normally also get this cashback when paying via Curve (with or without ApplePay etc) but for some odd reason, special cashback promos might only work if you use the actual Chase card. This was the case with the Amazon promo Chase ran last year.
I don't know anything about Chase cashback and Paypal as I haven't used/needed Paypal in years.0 -
Yes you get the 1% via Samsung Pay / Curve0

No, it isn't, but card payments made via Paypal are eligible for cashback providing they are in a category on the exclusions list.graham47 said:I’m just (slightly) concerned that the transaction will be seen as a payment via third party, a bit like PayPal unless the actual physical debit card is used.
