Do we have a rough list of what's excluded from cashback yet? E.g. council tax bills, investments? I think there's one in the FAQs but it's a bit 'general' imo?
The list of what you do get cashback on will be shorter.

As I have described elsewhere, you can use the Curve card to shift purchases from Chase to a cashback credit card if desired.
Thank you for the link. I have heard of Curve but haven't looked into it further.

How does it work for your 3rd point, where you choose Chase as your spending card and then use the 'go back in time' to switch the payment onto a CC. Does the money get refunded to your Chase current account straightaway?

It's not instant. Takes a couple of days, in either direction.

Hi guys. Just a quick one with chase bank.
I want to open an account to benefit the 1.5% savings. Do they do a hard search etc? I’m applying for a mortgage in the next few months and can’t have a hard search jeopardise this. Thank you.
No hard search as they don't do overdrafts.
  • I've also put £75.01 petrol in the car just to see the 0.99p go into the 5% account. Silly I know but every little helps.

I do this too, though the happiness at the 99p going into the 5% account is (very slightly) offset by the idea that the next person to go to the pump will think I was too uncoordinated to stop bang on £75.00 :#

Basically, any large purchases are excluded from cashback:

    Investments
    Council tax
    University fees
    Car purchase and maintenance
    Etc.

So it's about grocery shopping, purchases on Amazon, purchases from shops, gym memberships etc.
It's not as simple as the amount of the purchase. I got cashback on purchases of several thousand pounds - which are large purchases for me.
What purchase was it? For Chase, it pretty much looks like anything that could be a large purchase would not qualify for cashback...

I don't know what you consider large but I had several cashback payments for what were large purchases for me. I won't be publishing details of my purchases on the internet but happy to share redacted screenshots of a couple of them.

Not that helpful to anyone. You don't want to tell people what sort of purchase they were, so people can know those items would qualify for cashback??

It doesn't matter what the items are, it's who the vendor is.
If I spent several grand in Argos, I'd get the cashback

One thing I have been looking at is whether Chase UK are supporting the open banking standards so that you can connect up and consolidate the views of your accounts. From what I can see they are not doing this and spoken to a few 3rd party companies yesterday and they all say that Chase are being very un-cooperative on this front.

May not be a feature too many use, but for me is another reason why I will only use it for a savings account which changes infrequently and stick with other more feature rich current accounts.

Hotels, even in a foreign currency, would get cashback. I got a nice chunk of cashback in my recent USA stays

You are correct, they don't support Open Banking. If this important to you, then Chase is obviously not for you.

Personally, I couldn't care less as the supposed benefits mean very little or nothing to me. I am very rarely using any OB at any of the banks that do offer it. In fact, where I have used it (e.g. to pull money into Tandem Bank or Tesco Bank), I have made sure that I deleted all the authorisations as I don't like the idea of having financial providers snooping around in my accounts, or to give any bank what they call a single view of my accounts. I have had a true single view of all my accounts, not just those which participate in OB. long before OB got even invented.

    YMMV.
