What purchase was it? For Chase, it pretty much looks like anything that could be a large purchase would not qualify for cashback...Daliah said:
It's not as simple as the amount of the purchase. I got cashback on purchases of several thousand pounds - which are large purchases for me.sebtomato said:Basically, any large purchases are excluded from cashback:
Investments
Council tax
University fees
Car purchase and maintenance
Etc.
So it's about grocery shopping, purchases on Amazon, purchases from shops, gym memberships etc.
£10k in flights and accommodation here and all qualified.

Am I the only person who simply can't sign up for this Chase account? I've lost count of the number of times I've entered my name, date of birth and phone number, then waited in vain for the text to confirm my phone number and proceed with signing up. The text simply never arrives. I'm 100% sure I entered the correct number. I've entered it in different formats (07.. and +447..). I've rebooted the phone. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I have a 2021 Android 12 phone, so it should be supported. I even moved my SIM into a different phone and tried from there. No dice. The help desk are sympathetic but out of ideas, and now I am too.0

The app tell you what doesn’t qualify for cash back. It’s things such as estate agents fees & antiques. Go to cash back then important info for the full list.veryintrigued said:

Not very impressive.

Whilst it’s not great that they don’t offer a full service, at the moment at least, I don’t think that they’ve aimed themselves at being anyone’s sole bank. They can concentrate on doing what they do offer well (relatively good interest, cash back & overseas use). If I need any other service I can use another bank.Daliah said:Not very impressive.

I don't need a list of retailers, but just a list of typical purchases that could qualify.Daliah said:
I didn't post this to start a list of retailers at which you can get cashback but in response to your claim that it pretty much looks like anything that could be a large purchase would not qualify for cashback. As per my real life examples, it's pretty clear that the cashback isn't limited by the purchase amount but by the category the retailer is in.sebtomato said:Not that helpful to anyone. You don't want to tell people what sort of purchase they were, so people can know those items would qualify for cashback??
Conversely, a small purchase amount doesn't guarantee cashback. Say you deposit £50 or £250 a month into a savings or investment account with your debit card, you won't get any cashback because such 'purchases' are on the excluded list.
Posting a screenshot of some amounts without indication of the type of purchase/transactions is quite useless.0 -
The exclusion list is very clear. Although quite long, the only exclusions that I can see that realistically would affect me is car repairs /MOT etc and house/car insurance.
I don't buy from art galleries, gamble, pay nursing fees or buy crypto or timeshares.1 -
Am I right in thinking that unlike some other banks that charge c2.5%/transaction fee for debit card payments made in Euros that with Chase current account card there is no fee?0

Again: the purpose of my screenshots was to prove that your claim that there will probably not be any cashback for higher amounts was simply wrong.sebtomato said:

That's right, just like Starling Bank, Chase UK won't charge a fee for debit card purchases in Euros.tg99 said:Am I right in thinking that unlike some other banks that charge c2.5%/transaction fee for debit card payments made in Euros that with Chase current account card there is no fee?1
