It is very naive for many of the Chase forum user to threaten to leave unless the cashback at 1% is retained, as it is clearly not sustainable and it was simply a strategy to gain an initial customer base (an alternative to the £100-150 other banks throw around in CASS offers).
It would be equally naive to think people will continue to spend with a nil cashback debit card when they can get 0.5%, or even 1%, cashback on their credit cards. I might not close my Chase account at the end of my cashback period but I won‘t bother with loading it in order to use the debit card.

I have also no intention to switch my current account to Chase. I might switch my DDs if Chase pay more cashback on DDs than I get at Santander.

I might also consider a Chase credit card if it offers more than the ones I already have. But the likelihood that I will ever have all my current and credit card accounts with a single bank is next to zero.
My argument is that they could have been more focus on realistic feedback. As others have already said not everyone uses Credit Cards and even for those that do, outside of Amex there is no many "open to new applicant" Visa/Mastercard that offer greater then 0.25% cashback, so if they retain any sort of cashback level on Debit Card Spend, it will probably be a real alternative to Amex (90% of my spend is on Amex for example and only 10% falls outside of it, and not necessarily because it means that 10% of my UK  "suppliers" do not accept AMex, but actually that 10% has a large portion of non GBP spending which I do on Forex Free Mastercards). The free USA ATM withdrawasl makes it an almost unique option for those of us that travel often to the States ( a better alternative to Sandander that is only really present in NYC).

I think many MSE forumites will continue to have multiple accounts, and not having yet a PO agreemnt for counter service, CHase will expect their customer to continue to use multiple acounts. Again as other have said, for many (I also see too many Monzo cards being used around), it will be an alternative to Monzo/Starling. I also have Santander Select and do get great cashback on DD, but it is on Household bills only. in fact I have other odds DD (gym, CC, houseinsurance, etc) coming off of other accounts for benefits (e.g. RBS Rewards, etc), so indeed if they come up with some sort of DD cashback, I may also cosider it.

Again, i do not think that the likes of you or me will ever bank with only one bank (I had three UK accounts already at 19 when I was at Uni, and also had a EU current account at the same time), but there are people that do and will probably find Chase as a great alternatives to Starling and Monzo, especially for the fantastic Customer Service.

Will CASS come when DD do?
Only Chase can tell you that.

But the two facilities - account switching and direct debits - are entirely unrelated, so I see no reason to suppose they will both be made available together.
  • I contacted support regarding the CASS, as far as they are aware it will still be the form way to switch into Chase. Very disappointed with that pensive
  • They are bringing DD support from March, it came out recently (14th?) in an email with this update.

I have been using Chase for a couple of months now and I love them, their app is great and so is customer support. 1% is a nice sweetner. I will probably move fully to them once DD can be set up and stay with them.

"Lots of you have been asking for them and we're looking forward to seeing how you use them. They'll be with you in March, but you can already use your Chase account for standing orders and subscriptions. "

Discussed also in the (rather silly) thread entitled Cheese Bank?.

Re the announcement here's the url without the unnecessary bits:  https://www.chase.co.uk/gb/en/updates-from-chase/update-from-chase/

I am also considering making Chase my primary bank, I tried sending large amount out to my own acc and it got blocked late at night and they responded within a couple minutes and processed it after quick security over live chat.

They already had a v good amazon offer couple months back, I assume they will continue to land good rewards/cashbacks like these that others can't get due to their size. Hope they have good easy access savings products in spring too
  • Once they have DD and overdraft option certainly can be a contender but they should have just waiting until these features could be offered before launching.

Cheque deposits and Post Office access are more important than CASS IMO

Not necessarily, as they have already now built a base, learned some customers behaviours and have accrued some potentially considerable deposits.

interestingly, the BA Galleries Lounges at Heathrow this week were full of Chase advertisements, on boards everywhere, mentioning specifically the cashback when purchasing flights or spending abroad; the advertisement presence was even more than the Amex BA PP card that was only featured at the entrance
