I opened this account for my day-to-day spending only, as the 1% cash back didn’t seem like something to sniff at. Annoyingly though, it turns out my place of employment (a University) is considered to “offer services” rather than “goods”.

So, it seems that any money I spend on coffee, or lunch, or in the bar(!) at work, is *not* eligible for cash back. Obv not the end of the world, but frustrating to be told that me buying coffee at work is not considered everyday spending but is instead receiving a service. Ha!
Would they apply the same with pubs and restaurants ?
Nope, I have been in numerous ones, cashback all applied.

A friend of mine is visiting USA this week and plans to use a Chase ATM - anything I should ask them to look out for?

When they first launched this account I opened one, stuck £100 in it and then forgot about it. I opened it more out of curiosity, and tbh it didn’t really stand out for me.

Last few days I had been looking to buy a new iPhone sim free. And remembered seeing the 3% cash back offer at Amazon using my chase card. So I used it, and am very impressed with how quickly the cash back has been available to me. Which then got me thinking, why am I not using this card to get the 1% cash back on my other normal everyday spending for the next year? My main account is Lloyds and I love the save the change feature. But I remembered that the Chase account offers something very similar.

I didn’t like the app at first. But now I’m more used to it I like the fact that is simple to use.

Now going to use this account as my everyday spending account. At least until the 1% cashback offer is finished.

That's basically what I'm doing - I use it like a prepaid debit card, moving money into Chase, sometimes using my best guess at what I'll spend (for example doing a weekly shop at the supermarket) and then spending it. Now made much easier with Google pay. Not had any issues transferring money in (from Lloyds), always arrives in less than a minute.

Essentially what I have been doing ever since Chase UK launched, and will continue to do until Chase withdraw/end the 1% offer for me, or until that offer is superseded by a better offer.

I process all my payments* through Curve, so if Chase do not pay cashback on a given transaction, I can move it to one of my other cashback cards which hopefully pays me some cashback.

*Except for the Amazon 3% offer, as you only get 3% if you use the Chase card directly. Used through Curve is 1% only.

NB. All my Direct Debits for utilities remain with Santander for the time being. Not only because Chase still do not offer Direct Debits but also because Chase don't better the Santander cashback
