Our family of 4 all received debit cards within days and £125 each immediately after the switch date
  • I haven't received my card yet. Trying to figure out how to message them about it as CBA calling..

Log in and I think "send a secure message" is in the left side list of other service type things at the bottom of your account page, or their maybe a few buttons right at the very top of the page...

I've just applied to switch a sole account from HSBC to a Flexdirect joint account. Everything went smoothly (accepted it seems) until the final page of the application. They asked for the second named on the new account (my wife) her old debit card number. She isn't switching anything as it's just my sole account, just my old debit card number which I've supplied.
The option I had for her was to say no to the card option, I clicked finish where it said you are done and nothing happened. Not had anything from them, confirmation via email or text, it seems the application died.
Anyone else applied for a joint account with Nationwide switching in from a sole account?

It's a long answer - that says it's not the best idea. Dealt with in the thread, worth a read.

Sounds like you can open an account with them on one day, then do the switch a day after (or a few days later) and qualify for the £125 instead of only £100
Yes, it would only exclude if you open and then immediately switch as part of the opening process (as it prompts you to do but understandably without warning it would cost you £25!)
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

It's a long thread trawled through many page and it seems at least one other has switched a sole to a joint and been successful.
I'm going to try again, give up on the Flexdirect account and just do a sole to sole switch on one of the other qualifying accounts. That way it may save a good deal of hassle, it's also unsure if I'll get the Flexdirect interest for 12 months. Had that previously but only on a sole account some 4-5 years ago maybe longer.

Has anyone had an instance when the date selected for the switch has been changed by Nationwide and the switch ref number changed as well?

I've only just realised that when the switch didn't go through today and after i went back through all the texts i noticed the differences in date/ref number, seems odd.
Well, after the above happened the new switch date of 4th October came and switch was duly completed with text to acknowledge that, no further text or emails received. Switch bonus not paid so we raised a complaint on 14th October and after multiple secure messages to and fro, and a long live chat yesterday followed by a flurry of texts the bonus has finally been paid this morning, 16 days after switch day.

It would appear that the glitch which caused the switch to be restarted also stopped payment!

Needless to say we won't be staying with NW, in fact my account has already gone to Santander, and this one (my OH's) will be going the same way.

And this secure message was received this morning -

"Thank you for your message. Your original switch was automatically terminated by the system to a technology fault. We rekeyed your switch for you and it completed on the 04/10/2021 and the incentive was paid on the 20/10/2021.

If you have any further queries, please contact me by responding to this message. Alternatively, you can contact our Helpdesk on 03457 30 20 11. We are available Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm.

    Kind Regards,

    James

    Current Account Switch Team"

  • Do they perform a hard search even if you are already a member (with a savings account) and have previously had a current account with them? I only switched from them a few months ago to take advantage of the First Direct offer.  I mean I'm not that bothered if they will, I'm just curious.
