Do they perform a hard search even if you are already a member (with a savings account) and have previously had a current account with them? I only switched from them a few months ago to take advantage of the First Direct offer.  I mean I'm not that bothered if they will, I'm just curious.
Yes they do although interestingly the last account I opened only shows a search on Experian, no searches showing on Transunion (via Credit Karma) or Equifax ( via Clearscore)

And the latest twist in our little saga - this morning i get a text to say that my switch doesn't qualify for the bonus, quoting the number of the one that NW aborted. Of course it doesn't qualify, it never happened! Talk about left hand not knowing what right hand is doing...

Apologies if it's already been answered but the terms seem ambiguous and I don't have the time to read 60+ pages!

Can two individual sole accounts be switched to the same Nationwide joint account and each get the switching bonus?

I.E. is it the person or the destination account which qualifies.

    Thank you
  • Destination account gets the bonus.  Only one bonus payable per sole and per joint account.

Wife and I did this for 3x £125 bonus:

My sole TSB to sole Nationwide
My sole TSB to joint Nationwide
Her sole TSB to sole Nationwide

There's a few people who say they qualified 3 times, but if you wanted to be sure, and you have the option, transfer a joint to a joint, rather than a sole to a joint.

'Sole to a joint' technically fails under note 4 of the terms as his middle line is a 2nd sole account switch.

"How do I qualify for the offer?

    4. This offer is only valid on the first sole current account and first joint current account you switch to us, even if we withdraw this offer and launch it again in the future."

  • I think that when you switch to a joint nationwide account the online form assumes you are switching from a joint as it has details for both named account holders.

I know several have said it works. And it's unlikely they'll fix it... but '...if you want to be sure..'

I tried a sole account switch into a joint account, computer said no. It asked for my wife's old card details to complete the switch, of course I didn't have that info as it was my sole account I was switching out of. The application couldn't go any further until I came up with a debit card number for her.
I switched into s sole account in the end, got the £125👍

Why didn't you select the 'no debit card' option?

I did and the application came to a  grinding halt. Can't remember what the message was now, something like can not proceed and and a telephone number.
Didn't really matter in the end, this account will most likely get switched again soon.
