    Hi all,

I opened an account with Nationwide 17 days ago. I set up two DDs and wanted to do the full switch online. I have got the following message: "We're sorry but you cannot use the online switch service to transfer payments from your FlexAccount. Please contact your local branch who will be able to carry out your request."

    What did I do wrong?

    Thanks.
Normally I'd just say read the terms , but from your other posts I'd guess English may not be your first language, so you get some slack...

    You didn't understand the terms:
"You need to switch from another bank or building society. And it's only available for a limited time. Make sure you read the full terms and conditions of this offer."
You are right, English is not my first language.

Despite that, I can still understand what is recommended on Moneysavingexperthttps://www.moneysavingexpert.com/banking/compare-best-bank-accounts/

I quote, "How you switch depends on whether you're a Nationwide member – you're a member if you've an existing Nationwide current account, mortgage or savings account.

Got an existing FlexAccount, FlexDirect or FlexPlus?

    • Switch by selecting 'Switch to Nationwide' in online banking."
When I am trying to switch it won't let me. I asked here in a hope that someone may be able to point me to the right direction. Thanks.
I didn't find those exact words you linked for the context - but I can tell you that they mean switch into those accounts listed , not from them.

@mitbrille as you'll see below. the text on that page you've linked to quite clearly says, "You must also be switching from a non-Nationwide account" - not sure how that could be made any more clear.

    Hi,

Sorry, I'm sure this has likely been asked on here buried among the pages.  It looks like I had a FlexDirect account in the past, created 2016, ended either Oct 2017 (no saved record), or Oct 2018 when I can see I switched to HSBC.  Would I be eligible to do this switch for the £100/125?  I normally would see something in the details like not been a member for x years or such, but this one doesn't seem to specify as far as I can see in the T&C

    edit:
Also just checked - and I have 4 DDs on the account kinda....one is a credit card that is rarely used, say once every 3 months or so.......the other 3 appear to be active Paypal ones with different reference numbers, but there is zero transaction history on them so no idea when I'd set those up - guessing linked with Ebay perhaps :)  Are idle DDs ok/valid too?

Re your first question - the offer is open to existing or new members - that's clear from the terms. Not sure why you haven't picked that up from the T&C. You are definitely eligible for the switch offer. Everyone is (as long as they switch in with two DDs).  Unless they've already done this particular offer.

If you are a member you're eligible.
    If you're not a member you're eligible.
If you were a member once but you're not now, the second line applies! Simples.

Re FlexDirect in particular - you may be getting confused by the interest-paying terms (which are nothing to do with the switch terms).  For FlexDirect you won't get the higher interest rate if you've ever had FlexDirect before. So you will not get the higher interest rate if you open a FlexD account.  But you will get the switch bonus.  There's no particular advantage to FlexDirect without the interest so open a FlexAccount instead.

    The terms are here:

    in outline:   https://www.nationwide.co.uk/current-accounts/switch/

    and in detail:  https://www.nationwide.co.uk/current-accounts/help/terms/current-account-online-switch-offer-terms-and-conditions/

Your DD questions are covered multiple times in this thread!

Thanks, yes you're absolutely right - I was confusing myself reading about the part where would only get 0.3% instead of the 2%.  The regular account is made since yesterday, but can't log into it yet by the looks of it until I get my details posted or emailed through, hopefully will get the £125 pushed through no problem....not too concerned about the 2% element of it

I'd done some digging through the pages, and far as can tell, so long as they are actual live DDs, even if idle/not been drawn from in the last x months/yrs, then shouldn't matter.....tho hopefully I'm not wrong on that front too, I logged back into HSBC, these Paypal DDs whatever they are, are Active still, even tho they haven't had any form of transaction on them in the last 2-3yrs or so (can't remember setting them up either) :)
  • Finally able to set up online banking today.  The MSE page says wait a day.....wonder if I should wait til Tuesday to be sure, in case it doesn't count a weekend day for being a valid day for treating as "an existing" customer when do the switch

Is this a separate offer from the one Nationwide did (and I benefited from) a couple of months ago?
  • No. This offer has been going since August.

If you've had the offer, switched away and came back, would you get another £125? I can't really see a limitation in the T&Cs

    What T&C did you check?

"This offer is only available once, so you if you use the promotion and switch you won’t be able to do it again. The terms and conditions also say you won’t be eligible again even if they withdraw the offer and launch it again at a later date.'
    - That's from the link in the very first post here.

"This offer is only valid on the first sole current account and first joint current account you switch to us... You won’t qualify for this offer if:... you’ve previously benefited from this offer, as set out at clause 4."
    - This is from the Terms and conditions
